CLARITY – 3-6-19 Justice and Mercy

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 3-6-19

Justice and Mercy

What’s Happening: “The fact that California’s Attorney General, Xavier Becerra decided yesterday to not file charges in the death of Stephon Clark by two police officers responding to a vandalism call, has his children and fiance’ mortified and grief-stricken in their reaction (https://www.yahoo.com/news/stephon-clark-case-ends-no-020842812.html).  The link is obviously written by someone (Stephon Clark’s/his fiance’s attorney) who is seeking justice and feels that it is not going to happen.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Justice will never be served in this situation! A cell phone? Really?!”

Biblical Response:  “Perhaps…justice – like beauty – is usually in the eyes of the beholder. The fellow officers and their families probably feel they have received justice – at long last. Not to say they are not grieving for Stephon’s kids or fiance’. I was not there…and I’m sure those who gave their accounts did their best to be accurate…and only the shooting officers themselves know what really went on. I guess the aggrieved will have to settle for ultimate justice. They can be comforted with the knowledge that THE Judge is never wrong (1 Pet. 2:23).”

“Christians? We should weep with the fiance’, her kids, AND the families of the two shooting officers (Rom. 12:15). Everyone wants mercy for themselves, and justice for everybody else. That’s why there are laws and a court system…and ultimate justice and mercy can only be meted out by Someone Who ‘declares the end from the beginning’ (Is. 46:10)…”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us Stephon’s kids and fiance’ rely on Your ultimate decision…and be comforted till then; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 3-5-19 Chess

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 3-5-19

Chess

What’s Happening: “In an act that many have regarded as a sign that President Trump is abandoning the Oslo Peace Accord (signed in the 1990s), he is ordering the Palestinian Consulate in Jerusalem be closed and all its activities moved to the U. S. Embassy. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, claims the move was made for efficiency (https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-closes-jerusalem-consulate-sign-105107560.html). Quoting the report from the Telegraph: ‘Trump’s decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem broke with decades of international consensus that the status of the city must first be decided upon through negotiations by Israel and the Palestinians.Early Monday, Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinians who carried out a car-ramming attack in the occupied West Bank, injuring a soldier and a policeman.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Haven’t the Palestinians been openly hostile toward Israel?”

Biblical Response:  “Yep, the lobbing of missiles is an action that speaks loudly. While they say in peace talks they want more autonomy, they openly advocate for Israel’s destruction and refuse to even acknowledge Israel’s right to exist. On top of all that, every month or so we hear of another terrorist tunnel being discovered or another Israeli home being leveled with one of their missiles.”

“Christians? Sometimes we speak more loudly with our actions than we do with words. It is wrong to pretend concern when our actions betray our true selfishness (James 2:16). In this case, what is being said by actions is being cheered by some…and being booed by others.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to quit playing a tit-for-tat checkers game and start playing chess; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 3-4-19 Snapshots

CLARITY

Snapshots

What’s Happening: “A recent poll has the electorate in 2020 preferring someone NOT referring to themselves as a ‘socialist’ and not over 75 (Biden is 76, Sanders is 77, Trump is 72). There were many other factors tested, but this poll, like many others, is just a snapshot – today’s feelings and subject to change (https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-voters-don-t-want-150731203.html). ‘We’re getting early signals from Democratic primary voters that they are looking for bigger change and someone who agrees with them on policy,’ said Republican pollster Bill McInturff.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Bad news for Biden and Sanders…good news for Trump, huh?”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…it really only means that the formers will have to justify why their wisdom is to be preferred.  Polls are indeed snapshots, brief pictures taken to gauge the electorate’s reaction to recent news (accurate or inaccurate) and only showing what subjects want revealed – have pictures ever been taken when the photographer asked people to say ‘crud’ instead of ‘cheese’? Decisions based on polls should be as fluid as the emotions of those being polled. (Is. 28:8).”

“Christians? Pollsters are at a distinct disadvantage. Unlike God, Who sees the end from the beginning (Is. 46:10), their perception is limited to temporal horizons (God, however, is omnipresent – spatially and temporally; everywhere and EVERYWHEN).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to be patient and withhold judgment… or at least take into consideration  the changeable heart and untrustworthy nature of man; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 3-2-19 To Feel or Not To Feel?

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 3-2-19

To Feel or Not To Feel?

What’s Happening: “Dr. Ben Carson (neurosurgeon) , Housing and Urban Development Secretary, said in a recent interview (Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference) that fetuses in the womb at 25-28 weeks or greater in gestation can definitely feel pain (https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/ben-carson-shatters-pro-choice-narrative-abortion-can-guarantee-can-feel/?utm_source=push&utm_medium=westernjournalism&utm_content=2019-03-02&utm_campaign=manualpost) ‘The heart has started to beat; it’s absolutely amazing,’ said Carter.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Then killing a viable fetus is murder; is that what you’re telling me?

Biblical Response:  “It ought to be…but according to recently passed bills and the Virginia Governor, even a baby that is born alive can be allowed to die on the table. But just because something is legal does not mean it won’t be punished…just not on earth. The question is: ‘Is there an absolute right?’ Absolutely! And the absolute truth will set you absolutely free (John 13:8). ‘But what if you’re imprisoned; you are not free then, are you,’ you might ask? Only temporarily imprisoned…in the same sense that John the Baptist or the Apostle Paul only temporarily lost their heads. ‘But what about if the life of the mother is in jeopardy?’ That’s above my paygrade.”

“Christians? I only have one question for you: ‘How do you think God views a fetus?’ After all, His opinion is the only one that matters.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, we make decisions every day without consulting You. Forgive us…and help us to think about this issue the same way You do; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 3-1-19 Climate Change is Real…CULTURALLY

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 3-1-19

Climate Change is Real…CULTURALLY

What’s Happening: “Jay Inslee, 68, Democrat Gov. of Washington, just announced (today) his candidacy for Presidency in 2020, emphasizing climate change as an existential threat. He joins a field of over a dozen already, with more just waiting for the right moment to join the fray (https://www.yahoo.com/gma/focus-climate-change-washington-gov-inslee-enters-2020-120403139–abc-news-topstories.html). Quoting Gov. Inslee, ‘”This is a moment. This is the 11th hour to defeat climate change. It is a moment of great urgency, but it is also this incredible opportunity to seize for job creation.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Carbon fuels are making climate change real and urgent!’

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…but probably not…and that’s the least of our worries. Don’t get me wrong. I think that climate change is real. However, it’s not a man-made atmospheric problem…it IS a man-made cultural one! Considering the historical fluctuations of the earth’s mean temperatures, farting cows, Chinese carbon pollution levels, etc.  we have a preponderance of scientists who have it WRONG! Still, climate change (funny how environmentalists only use the term ‘global warming’ during the summer) is real, but it’s a cultural problem.. Since we have eliminated the Word of God from influence in our society, we have raised a godless generation that thinks socialism is to be preferred over capitalism. One problem. Man is not basically good. Man is basically bad.”

“Christians? We’re almost as big a part of the problem as the unchurched secular society. In our attempt to be all things to all men, our tolerance and political correctness has us backing down when we should be standing up (1 Pet. 3:15). The scripture is clear about stewardship of our environment. That was part of man’s original job description (Gen 2:15) and we have been assured that our puny attempts at destroying what God has made will be insufficient (Gen. 8:22). The problem is: we never read the Word anymore. ”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to make a difference in our culture…it’s a pity knowing the answer…and not speaking up; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
