CLARITY – 11-29-19 It’s a Little Late for That

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 11-29-19

It’s a Little Late for That

What’s Happening: “New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden, apologized yesterday for the crash in Antarctica (and the loss of 257 lives) of Air New Zealand’s Flight 901…now 40 years after the fatal event. Owned by the government at the time, the crash was then blamed on the pilots, NOT on the reprogramming of the plane’s navigation system without the knowledge of the flight crew. The jet crashed into the side of Mt. Erebus, a 12,448 foot extinct volcano ( ‘After forty years, on behalf of today’s government, the time has come to apologize for the actions of an airline then in full state ownership; which ultimately caused the loss of the aircraft and the loss of those you loved,’ the Prime Minister said. ‘The pilots were not responsible for this tragedy, and I stand here today to state that again,’ she added.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “So it came a little late. At least she apologized.”

Biblical Response:  “A little late?! In the remorse category, timing is everything. The apology might have finally come…and I’m grateful for that…but it’s little solace to the victims or their families. There is such a thing as being too late. For instance, how about the rich man in Jesus’ parable in Luke 16 (verses 19-31)? Whatever relief his servant Lazarus could have brought was too little, too late.”

“Christians? We believe that timing is everything when it comes to regret or repentance. The Scripture does not record any opportunity for either once death has sealed your fate (Heb. 9:27).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, make us responsive to Your warnings and reactive to impending danger; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

May I indulge in a little self-promotion? Many of you read CLARITY every day…and you hopefully forward it on to still others. Some even subscribe from the website. Thanks! (One mother wrote that she wanted to subscribe to read it to her children everyday – read away!) However you get CLARITY, would you consider donating on the website? I’m happy to find useful purpose in helping folks stay informed and supplying what I think God has to say on the subjects of the day…still, I want to get this word out to others…which is what I’ll do with your gifts. Thanks in advance.
