CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 12-5-19

Lost and Found in the Outback

What’s Happening: “Obscure news…unless you are the one searchers are looking for; lost are three folks: Claire Hockeridge,46; her partner, Tamra McBeath-Riley, 52; and their visiting companion, Phu Tran, 40; found Wednesday: the body of Claire. In an arid part of the Australian Outback, south of their hometown of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, the women were giving a tour to Tran, a visitor on November 19, when they got lost. Searchers found the abandoned SUV the three used…and found Tamra and Tran. They’d separated, Claire following a fence (https://www.yahoo.com/news/police-searching-outback-missing-woman-062032826.html). ‘We are all grieving and exhausted from the emotional roller coaster that we’ve ridden,’ Sarah Hockeridge said. ‘Even though Claire has died in terrible circumstances, we are glad Tamra and Phu have been found alive and well and we’re extremely grateful for everyone involved in that.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Perhaps they should have toured their friend with pictures, instead.”

Biblical Response:  “Perhaps. Living nearby, I’m sure, gave them a false sense of confidence…that, and underestimating the harshness of their surroundings, spelled tragedy. Still, we can identify with them. Who hasn’t allowed the familiarity with the world and an underestimation of the harshness (and danger) of the surroundings lead them to disaster? (1 Tim. 1:18-20) Sometimes it seems we spend half our lives trying to extract ourselves from the realities our foolish decisions have wrought. Were it not for a Faithful Searcher, we would most certainly be lost, too (Matt. 18:12-14).”

“Christians? Making a decision to follow Christ does not exempt us from making stupid choices…it just assures us of a Searcher who won’t give up. Hopefully, our foolishness becomes less and less, as we allow His way of thinking to take over more and more (Phil. 2:5: 2 Cor. 10:5).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give us a heart like Yours…one that never gives up; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

Reader:

May I indulge in a little self-promotion? Many of you read CLARITY every day…and you hopefully forward it on to still others. Some even subscribe from the website. Thanks! (One mother wrote that she wanted to subscribe to read it to her children everyday – read away!) However you get CLARITY, would you consider donating on the website? I’m happy to find useful purpose in helping folks stay informed and supplying what I think God has to say on the subjects of the day…still, I want to get this word out to others…which is what I’ll do with your gifts. Thanks in advance.

Blessings,

Alan
