CLARITY – 2-11-19 What’s the Rush?

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-11-19

What’s the Rush?

What’s Happening: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes (AOC) has introduced The Green New Deal, painting a gloomy future, which, according to her, will apocalyptically end in 12 years unless we engage in expensive and draconian measures. The price tag is a mere 7 Trillion dollars and will bring America to a ‘net-zero’ carbon emission status, though the U.N predicts a 100% reduction in carbon gas by us will only yield a .2 degree lowering of global temps by 2100 ( Net-zero? According to Generation Yes, a climate activist website it means: ‘reducing the volume of greenhouse gas emissions that human activity releases into the atmosphere until our total output is no greater than the emissions we remove, through activities like planting carbon forests, reducing deforestation and using technologies like carbon capture and storage. So no more goes out than goes in = net zero.’

Knee-Jerk Response:  “What about herds of farting cows?”

Biblical Response:  “Actually, AOC addresses this issue. Quoting from the article: ‘We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast.’ Her solution to most air travel? High -speed, electrically-run rail travel…which is very expensive and does not accommodate Hawaiians. Also, her resolution (thankfully it’s only a resolution…though many Democrats fully endorse it) does not take into account other ‘polluting’ countries, the disproportionate cost to the middle class, the massive unemployment that would follow in the oil and gas industries, etc.”

“Christians? No Christian is laying aside his or her mandate to promote a clean environment. We’re the original ‘tenders and keepers’ (Gen. 2:15). In fact, that is part of our original purpose. But we’re also called to provide (1 Tim. 5:8). If we take, say, a couple hundred years, surely we can find a way to fulfill both mandates. And it might look less socialistic.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, while it’s not wrong to have lofty goal, let us do so with patience and compassion, realizing some change must come slowly…of course, that might require us to have Your perspective…which might be Your underlying goal anyway; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
