CLARITY – 3-12-19 Are You Ready?

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 3-12-19

Are You Ready?

What’s Happening: “Another Boeing 787 Max 8 crashed after departing an Ethiopian airport on its way to Nairobi, killing all 157 passengers and crew aboard (it also happened – same model aircraft and circumstances – 5 months ago, killing all 189 aboard). Local farmers are quoted as saying they heard a bang and the sound of metal on metal before the plane turned and nose-dived to a crash and an explosion that panicked local livestock. Passengers are seeking alternate aircraft (–sector.html). ‘It was a loud rattling sound. Like straining and shaking metal. Everyone says they have never heard that kind of sound from a plane and they are under a flight path,’ said Turn Buzuna, 26-year-old housewife and farmer.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I know 157 people who are having a bad day!”

Biblical Response:  “You think?! It’s hard to identify with the people who died that day (or their families). They were vacationing or just going from point A to point B…some on business…some for pleasure. Life (and death) are just like that. All tragedy is local…some is unexpected. The only real question is (I mean, of course, we need to get to the bottom of the mechanics behind the crash) ‘were they ready?’ There were nearly 30 nationalities represented on board and presumably several different religions…but they all had one thing in common beside the fiery crash: they have now met their Maker (Heb. 9:27).”

“Christians? The above verse says: ‘And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, (Heb. 9:27 NASU). Let me put it in mathematical form for all you engineering types: life in context = (120 {Gen. 6:12}/infinity. Regardless of how you believe, you are going to one day meet God. Whether through a plane crash , a protracted illness or the collateral damage of someone else’s stupidity – the only pertinent question at that time will be: ‘Are you ready?’ Well, ARE YOU?”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to live every day as if it were our last; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
