A Biblical Response to Current Events – 3-18-19
What’s Happening: “If it isn’t anti-American deaths (2,996 victims – so far – in 9/11 attacks), anti-Muslim deaths (50 killed in New Zealand last week), or just the ‘random’ (?) deaths of 3 shot on a tram (9 wounded, 3 seriously) yesterday in Utrecht, Holland (https://www.yahoo.com/news/latest-dutch-police-considering-terrorism-111545564.html), then it’s an unexpected crash of a 737 Max 8 (all killed) two of which occurred in Indonesia (in October) and last week (in Ethiopia). Life is fragile. Shoot, there were 37,133 highway deaths in 2017…and that was just in America!”
Knee-Jerk Response: “Seems like death is all around. Good thing I don’t get out much.”
Biblical Response: “Unfortunately, that’s no guarantee. Each year there are over 6,000 deaths from home accidents(in America). I guess when your time is up, it’s up. I’m not saying you shouldn’t exercise, eat healthfully, or avoid dangerous activities, but no amount of worry, fear, or preparation is going to forestall the inevitable. 100% of people alive today (barring Christ’s return) are going to die.”
“Christians? No doubt, we have the best deal going. Aren’t we going to die? Sure, physical death…followed by a physical resurrection…’if it were not so’ He would have told us (John 14:2). Won’t there be pain? Maybe…but it’s only temporary…followed by bliss (2 Cor. 5:1-5). Kind of makes you want to go home, huh? That’s why Paul was ambivalent (Phil. 1:23).
Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray: “Heavenly Father, don’t let fear of dying cause us not to hear Your voice telling us which way to go … nor let us get too far ahead of You to be out of earshot; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
