CLARITY – 4-20-20 It Wasn’t a Safe Place

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 4-20-20

It Wasn’t a Safe Place

What’s Happening: “Just because they were ‘sheltering at home’ did not mean they were safe…at least not for the 16 who were killed in Nova Scotia yesterday (including, tragically, 23-year veteran RCMP officer Heidi Stevenson). The twelve-hour rampage occurred all over the province, but was centered in Portapique. The gunman was killed, though it has not been released whether he did it himself or the RCMP…it left a lot of questions unanswered ( Quoting from the Reuters article by John Morris: ‘Today is a devastating day for Nova Scotia, and it will remain etched in the minds for many years to come,’ said Lee Bergerman, commanding officer of the RCMP in Nova Scotia.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “If COVID-19 doen’t get you….”

Biblical Response:  “I know that there doesn’t seem to be a safe place anywhere, but like a friend of mine once said (he was a medic in VietNam), ‘the safest place is the center of God’s will’…in other words, location has nothing to do with it (Is 26:3:

‘Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.’ KJV)

‘All tragedy is local, and we certainly want to pray for the victims’ families (Rom. 12:15), but if you’re looking for a safe place from COVID-19, a gunman, a car accident, or some other calamity, good luck! I mean, we do live in a fallen world (Gen 3), and other than taking common-sense precautions….I guess the bumper sticker is right: S*** HAPPENS. However, it doesn’t happen in a vacuum. God is in control. Nothing surprises Him or catches Him off guard (Ps. 139). And that has to be comforting.”

“Christians? We believe in the sovereignty of God (Dan. 5:21; Ps. 96:10). And we believe He always provides sufficient grace for any circumstance (2 Cor. 12:9). We may not like our lot, but that has more to do with us than Him.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to nod in agreement as we duck to protect; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
