CLARITY – 5-26-18 Things That Don’t Burn

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 5-26-18

Things That Don’t Burn

What’s Happening:  “The Kilauea volcano (on the big island of Hawaii) continues to spew from its summit and from fissures as much as 25 miles away. There are now 3 flows that have reached the ocean, sending clouds of steam filled with particles of glass skyward ( Officials in Hawaii County said a fissure that opened earlier (almost two dozen fissures far from the summit have opened) joined the two flows that entered the ocean and became a third flow into the sea Thursday.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Burn, baby, burn!”

Biblical Response:  “Perhaps something a bystanding pyromaniac in fascination would say…why is it Man is so fascinated by burning things (or, at least things that should burn)? – I’m thinking about Moses who ‘turned aside’ to see the strange sight of a bush that burned, but was not consumed (Ex. 3:4). Still, it’s a small fraction of a rural area on a huge island and no real cause for concern for anybody but fear-mongering reporters.”

“Christians? As for the fascination with fire…maybe it stems from the burning bush experience; maybe from those who will burn in hell without being consumed – all the pain – no relief (Rev. 20:14-15). Don’t think they will not be burned? How else will they proclaim that He is Lord? (Phil. 2:10-11). Kneel now or later…but you will kneel.”

”Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, let us not lose sight of all that we have avoided by making You Lord; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”   © Alan E.Sargent
