A Biblical Response to Current Events – 6-8-18
What’s in a Name?
What’s Happening: “After 60 years, IHOP (International House of Pancakes) is changing its name. Wait for it…IHOb. Who knows what the “b” stands for? Many have speculated on Twitter. Even the company has invited folks to weigh in. Maybe it’s just an advertising ploy…in any case, we won’t know until 6-11-18. Maybe they’re just trying to distract from the summit (https://www.yahoo.com/news/ihop-changing-name-internet-apos-164012348.html). ‘For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now, we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18,’ the company Tweeted.
Knee-Jerk Response: “Maybe it’s “b” reakfast.”
Biblical Response: “Your guess is as good as mine…others have guessed: “b”acon, even “b”urger. What’s in a name? In this day of branding…everything! It describes what you do or who you are.”
“Christians? We believe names are quintessential. After all, “there is no other Name upon which men may call to be saved” (Acts 4:12). What does the name ‘Jesus’ mean? It is the Greek form of the Hebrew ‘Joshua’ or ‘Yeshua,’ which means Savior. Jesus Christ? ‘Yeshua Ha Mashiach – the Savior-Messiah. “Ask anything in my Name and I will do it.” (Jn. 14:14)…the how, why, and when are up to Him.”
Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray: “Heavenly Father, thanks for giving us Someone to go to that’s powerful enough, reliable enough, and available enough; in Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.” © Alan E.Sargent
