A Biblical Response to Current Events – 9-14-18
High School? Really?!
What’s Happening: “In a last-minute attempt to forestall what most Republicans consider the inevitable confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Sen. Dianne Feinstein turned over a letter to federal investigators regarding an alleged incident that may be from high school. Sen. Feinstein said the letter’s author wants to be anonymous (https://www.yahoo.com/news/sen-feinstein-gives-investigators-she-got-kavanaugh-054814850–politics.html). Feinstein was quoted as saying, she ‘received information from an individual concerning the nomination’ and said the person, ‘strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further…’
Knee-Jerk Response: “Did he do something he regrets?”
Biblical Response: “Who hasn’t…especially in high school! Is the Judiciary Committee holding Kavanaugh to standard that is unreasonable? We are talking about a lifetime appointment, but who has not done something bone-headed in high school? Isn’t that where we learn about what is acceptable behavior and what isn’t? Isn’t that why juvenile records are expunged?”
“Christians? What is the age of accountability? When does God start holding us accountable for our actions? Of course, He’s God (and there was only One Sinless Man…and they crucified Him!) Maybe the Judiciary Committee should not be casting stones (John 8:3-7).”
Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray: “Heavenly Father, while we are called to judge (1 Cor. 6:3), let us not apply a standard unfairly; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
