CLARITY – 9-14-20 ‘Peaceful’ Riots?

‘Peaceful’ Riots?

What’s Happening: “By definition a riot is a ‘violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd’ (Google), so ‘peaceful’ riots would be oxymoronic, but that is just what organizers would say of the riots that got India student Umar Khalid arrested for demonstrations where those he allegedly started resulted in over 50 deaths. He was protesting the passage by the legislature of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which he claims is anti-Muslim and unconstitutional.  The peaceful demonstration later turned violent and police say Khalid was on of the ‘key conspirators’ (https://www.yahoo.com/news/umar-khalid-india-student-leader-062536516.html). Quoting from the BBC article:; ‘The law – which critics say is anti-Muslim – sparked massive protests across India after it was passed last year. One such demonstration in Delhi turned violent and it soon took on religious overtones. The rioting continued for three days, leaving more than 50 people dead.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “He was just organizing…he shouldn’t be arrested for that…he pulled no trigger…weilded no stick.”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah, and I guess those over 50 that died did so of natural causes! And he’s not being charged with murder. Besides, I wasn’t there…were you? We all have a tendency to Monday-morning-quarterback – to judge an event from the comfort of our couch…after the fact.”

“What does the Bible say? It acknowledges the emotion of anger, but reminds us of ‘self-control (Which is one of the fruit of the Spirit – Gal. 5:22):

‘Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:’ (Eph. 4:26 KJV)”

“Christians? We believe in God’s power to control our emotions (if we submit that part of us to Him). God acknowledges we are emotional creature; we’d be so bland and heartless if we weren’t; still, He expects us to yield to a different default now that His nature controls us…now that we’ve been born again (Jn. 3:7). Presumably Umar Khalid did not have that advantage.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to be reflections of You in all that we do…to default to Your nature; in Jesus’ Name, amen.

CLARITY – 8-5-19 Three Cities = One Truth

CLARITY

Three Cities = One Truth

What’s Happening: “Gilroy (CA), El Paso (TX), and Dayton (OH)…three cities…one truth: Evil exists. Shootings in all three places…within a week…has over 30 dead, many wounded, many more grieving, but no one doubts the existence of evil. Amid the numerous investigations, the endless questions of motives, the discovery that anger, unresolved conflict, left-leaning thinking, domestic terrorism, settling old scores, the use of semi-automatic weapons, etc., is all involved, comes a stark and unrelenting reality: s*** happens (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/07/28/gilroy-garlic-festival-shooting-reports-investigated-california/1854339001/ – for California; (https://www.yahoo.com/news/ohio-shooting-police-identified-24-190345713.html – for Ohio; (https://www.yahoo.com/news/el-paso-shooting-police-warn-170716143.html – for Texas. Sure, there will be political posturing: gun control initiatives, those calling for more strict background checks, or mental health initiatives…but nothing will deal with the truth that evil exists…that the only way to deal with that has already occurred nearly 2000 years ago.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “My guess is that there are three cities whose churches will be full.”

Biblical Response:  “Probably…though most folks may be too jaded to seek spiritual help. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for praying for those who are wounded, for the families of the victims, for giving comfort in tragedy (Rom. 12:15), but I’m also for knowing what the true problem is and for dealing with it. At the root of all evil is sin. And Jesus dealt with that on the cross (Rom. 6:6; 1 Pet. 2:24) After His death, He even gave His Holy Spirit to indwell us, assuring a nature change (Gal. 5:22). Our Founders recognized, however, that the battle for control of Man was not over (Rom 7:8-25) and legislated the teaching of the Bible in schools (Northwest Ordinance of 1787). Then we did the boneheaded thing of removing prayer and Bible teaching in 1962 (Engle v. Vitale). There can never be self-control if there is no God-control. And we won’t appeal for that if we’re raised to believe He doesn’t exist. We all get angry from time to time, but we ‘sin not’ (Eph. 4:26). Why? Because of self-control…which is impossible apart from the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:19; Phil. 2:13).”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in anger, in being passionate about this or that…just not in letting it evolve into sin. But we also believe in writing or calling our Legislator. Taking the long road to change involves patience (also a fruit of the Spirit). It also involves doing something different. The same actions yield the same outcomes.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, let us not let these tragedies take their usual news-cycle course, producing short-term hand-wringing instead of long-term change; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 5-23-19 Whatever Happened to Civility?

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -5-23-19

Whatever Happened to Civility?

What’s Happening: “The jury is still out (no pun intended) on 27-year-old Christopher Cleary, a Utah man that maintains he’s still a virgin and has no girlfriend, He is being charged with a third degree felony (attempted threat of terrorism) for posting on Facebook that he was going to ‘kill as many girls as he could see’ because he was rejected…a dubious claim as two girls claimed to have a sexual relationship with him and he was living with a girl when was arrested (https://www.yahoo.com/news/man-threatened-kill-many-girls-141138663.html). ‘All I wanted to be was loved,” Cleary posted. ‘Yet no one cares about me, I’m 27 years old and I’ve never had a girlfriend before and I’m still a virgin, this is why I’m planning on shooting up a public place soon and being the next mass shooter ‘cause I’m ready to die.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Sounds like a bad hombre that needs to be removed from society!”

Biblical Response:  “And he may be, though I don’t believe his consorts anymore than I do him. What I want to ask is, where are his parents? Apparently he was not taught how to handle rejection…or anger, for that matter. Life is full of hard knocks. Kids are supposed to learn how to handle that while they’re young…so that when they get older, they have learned discretion…to be angry, but sin not (Eph. 4;26). That’s what parenting is for. (You know, that old-fashioned impediment to a two-income higher standard of living.,,what we have are kids posting threats on social media, still living in their parents’ basements which were afforded by that increased standard of living!)”

“Christians? We’ll probably get accused of child abuse for visiting the ‘woodshed’ so often…maybe you’d like visiting the prison better? See the following ‘outmoded’ scriptures

“Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.” (Prov. 13:24 NLT)

“Withhold not correction from the child; (For) if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.” (Prov. 23:13 ASV)

“And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;

For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”

(Heb. 12:5-6 NKJV)

ETC., ETC.

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, make the parent impervious to the protests of the disciplined child, but attentive to Your merciful voice of direction: in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
