Remarkable AND “Fortuitous”

What’s Happening:  “It has been reported in yesterday’s Huffington Post that a woman has discovered the oldest ‘message in a bottle’ ever  found…from 1886! It was actually discovered on the coast of Australia by a woman who was going to display it on her mantle as a novelty and it has been confirmed it was part of an experiment by a German scientific company researching sea currents; it was listed in the log of a steamer as dropped in the Indian Ocean in 1886 ( Leading off the article was the comment, ‘I hope they weren’t expecting a quick reply.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “That’s miraculous!”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…as the article states. Kym Illman, the discoverer’s husband also owns a company named ‘Messages on Hold’…and this might just be his publicity stunt. You never know…”

As the story goes, a shepherd was trying to chase a wayward sheep out of the caves by throwing a rock in after it. The sound of a breaking ’bottle’ (actually a clay jar) invited further inspection and the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Left by an Essenic community in the First Century, it would actually be the oldest ‘message’ ever left. Parts of every book in the Old Testament have been found and translated..”
