CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-28-19

It’s What They Do

What’s Happening: “Michael Cohen, admitted liar, and once personal lawyer to Donald Trump, had much to say that delighted the Democrats in Congress that questioned him. Did  he say anything new or that could be used to impeach the 45th President of the United States? That’s debatable, but probably not. You see, he has this credibility problem (https://www.dailysignal.com/2019/02/27/6-takeaways-from-cohens-hill-testimony-about-trump/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiWm1Wak5EZGtOamN6WW1GaSIsInQiOiI1SEdES0FSbk9mUlVWajhKbnJJMVk3ZDJYZDZqa2U1T2kzeHdXSzNmVnVKWlJmaDJQem5MZTFoeHVTMkR1U1F1aWhLbUo2Q0t6XC9Vd1JpdENyUWRXWk0zamRuazhXZTN5VXZ6XC9wd3FwYWs4NmlHb1dBZ1g4RmJKVWZncEFKYWcrIn0%3D)  Quoting from the article from the link above, ‘Soon to serve a prison sentence for, among other things, lying to Congress, Michael Cohen took a parting shot Wednesday at his old boss, President Donald Trump, in testimony on Capitol Hill.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Maybe he’s telling the truth…at least from his perspective.”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah…and maybe you’d be interested in a title to a bridge I own in New York! Liars lie…it’s what they do. He might be telling the truth…but probably not. ‘His truth’ cannot be trusted. It’s tainted by self-serving…by his plea and the fact that days from now he goes to prison…FOR LYING! Besides, the whole concept of ‘his truth’ gives credence to his perspective… and that there is no absolute truth.”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in absolute truth; irrefutable things that happen that are witnessed in the closet AND out. The proverbial ‘closet’ is a myth, since God was in the closet all along. His omnipresence is multi-dimensional…in space AND time, too…He’s not just everywhere present…He’s also everywhen (Is. 46:10). ”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to determine what is truth…as only then will we be set free (John 13:8), making decisions based on real reality  in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 8-23-18 Dumb Like a Fox

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 8-23-18

Dumb Like a Fox

What’s Happening:  “Mark Levin, Constitutional scholar, and former Chief of Staff for Attorney General Edwin Meese under President Reagan, said on Fox News Tuesday night (to Sean Hannity): ‘The general counsel for the Clinton mob family, Lanny Davis, he had his client (Michael Cohen) plead guilty to two counts of criminality that don’t exist..’ (https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/levin-trumps-clear-clinton-lawyer-cohen-plead-crimes-dont-exist/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=newsletter-CT&utm_campaign=dailypm&utm_content=conservative-tribune). Trump supporters will hope he’s right…the DNC will hope he’s wrong.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Is that an ‘Oops!’?”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…it might end up in the Supreme Court…which may be altered  by the hearings for Kavanaugh…which begin September 4. I guess we won’t know for a while…though the mainstream press will negative prognosticate, no doubt. Cohen says he has more to say, and Manafort has another trial to go. I guess it all comes down to who wins the midterms.”

Christians? Sometimes, there is distraction, but we are called to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves (Matt. 10:16).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to choose leaders with no hidden agendas…whose promises of transparency are only exceeded by their performance; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 4-10-18 Cohen Raid “Disgraceful”

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 4-10-18

Cohen Raid “Disgraceful”

What’s Happening:  “The FBI raided several (four warrants were issued) offices of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, late yesterday  amid Trump’s cabinet-level discussions on the U.S.’s reaction to Syria’s alleged chemical attack. He termed the raid “disgraceful” and a “witch hunt” that he said may have started as soon as he got nominated for President in 2016 (https://www.axios.com/trump-blasts-fbi-raid-on-michael-cohen-as-disgraceful-situation-1523312632-f2fe7944-7b87-415a-b904-c6afd0cc9600.html). The President said, ‘They continue to just go forward and here we are talking about Syria, we’re talking about a lot of serious things … and I have this witch hunt constantly going on for over 12 months now. Actually it’s much more than that. You could say right after I won the nomination it started.’

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I sure hope he’s not too upset over the raid to make decisions as Commander in Chief.”

Biblical Response:  “Probably not…a President is elected because he’s capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. Seriously, has there ever been a time when Trump has only faced ONE crisis? He regularly juggles the ambitions of: Iran, Russia, China, North Korea (to say nothing of the border wall, Turkey, ISIS, trade deals, etc.). I’m sure what he might term a witch hunt and Syria can just be taken in stride. ”

“Christians? We have to be careful not to conflate the challenges we face. If we come home from the office and take our frustrations with things over which we have no control (our boss, the price of our competitor’s products, etc.) on those  things over which we think we do have some control (our spouse, the kids, the dog), we may just be giving in to anger…which is by itself, not a problem. However when it leads to sin (Eph. 4:26), not so much.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, we need You to manage the emotions of our leaders and give them the courage of their convictions;  in Jesus’ Name, amen.” © Alan E.Sargent
