CLARITY – 7-31-20 Aliens Should Not Be Surprised

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 7-31-20

Aliens Shouldn’t Be Surprised

What’s Happening: “You’d think a courtroom would be safe…you’d be thinking wrong! In an Associated Press article earlier today, U.S. citizen Tahir Naseem was reported to have been gunned down and killed in a Pakistani courtroom where he was being tried on what many consider archaic Islamic blasphemy laws. The U.S. State Department may have complained, but Mr. Naseem was just as dead. Why he was even in Pakistan was not clear…what was clear was that he was being accused of proclaiming himself as a prophet, something forbidden by Islamic law. Although there are scores on death row for violating blasphemy laws, no one has recently been put to death. Asia Bibi, famously found innocent of blasphemy after being held for eight years, flew to Canada recently to join her daughters amid death threats from local Islamic radicals. ( Quoting the article: ‘We are shocked, saddened, and outraged that American citizen Tahir Naseem was killed yesterday inside a Pakistani courtroom,” the State Department statement read.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I guess it doesn’t matter what country you are from!”

Biblical Response:  “Legally, no; you are to be governed by the laws of whatever country you are in…which is why ‘everyone’ wants to come to America. Being here means you get all our protections. Reminds me of a conversation between Pontius Pilate and Jeues where Pilate asked Him if He was a king? (John 18:33-37) We all play by the rules of whatever country we are in. Sometimes that’ Good News (1 Pet. 1:1), sometimes it’s not (Acts 7:6).”

“Peter and John learned this the hard way as they were forced to obey a higher law (read: Acts 4:1-33).”

“Christians?  Oh, we believe we are not from around here (Eph. 2:19; 1 Pet. 2:11). Still, being that the Lord saw fit to leave us in this world, we should not be surprised when the laws of this world sometimes are not in our favor. That doesn’t mean we souldn’t try to fashion our own laws to resemble the laws of our kingdom…just to not be surprised that they are different,”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to regard ourselves as the aliens we are…yet to try and conform this world to our perspective; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 7-27-19 It’s Back on the Table

A Biblical Response to Current Events -7-27-19

It’s Back on the Table

What’s Happening: “Last Thursday, Attorney General Barr ordered the death penalty be reinstated. Last used in 2003,  it will immediately put five death-row inmates (murderers convicted of the most heinous crimes and who have exhausted their appeals), in the crosshairs. Not completely outlawed, the Furman v. Georgia Supreme Court decision took that option off the federal table in 1972. The death penalty for those convicted of federal crimes is now back on the table through Congress and the AG, though it will be by the lethal injection of one drug rather than three ( ‘The Justice Department upholds the rule of law — and we owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by the justice system,’ said AG Barr.

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Whatever happened to ‘Vengeance is Mine?’Doesn’t God have that exclusive right?”

Biblical Response:  “Apparently not…ask the victims? Oh, that’s right. You can’t. They’re dead. Seriously, some have said this is an act of human vengeance. But God is eternal. Temporal matters he left to us (of course, He does provide us guidance on this issue – Deut. 19:21, etc.). Others will argue that was a cultural matter. Can you name me a time in history when more died unjustly than have in the last 100 years? No one in his right mind could possibly name a more corrupt and evil time than right now (and that’s not to mention the deaths of the unborn). Still others say the threat of death is not a deterrent. If that were so, the death penalty.would not be a murderer’s first appeal for removal off the bargaining table.”

“Christians? We believe it is a last resort (and rightfully so) to impose death on anyone. But we also believe in evil. We further believe in the second death…- Rev. 21:8 – …and that only the Righteous Judge has jurisdiction over that. We are all deserving of this, but, thankfully, for those who confess Jesus as Lord (even those on death row), His death on the cross paid that debt in full (Rom. 10:9-10). Let me just say that there’s a huge difference between the First Death and the Second, between temporal and eternal.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to use this awesome power carefully and rarely…and with wisdom; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 1-30-19 No Guarantees

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 1-30-19

No Guarantees

What’s Happening: “Pakistan’s Supreme Court yesterday refused to reconsider the lower court’s acquittal of Asia Bibi who has spent 8 years on death row for blasphemy. Her alleged heinous crime? Drinking from the same water cup as a practicing Muslim. It is important to note that the court did not overturn the antiquated and religiously-biased blasphemy law, but cited conflicting witness accounts. Her attorney had to seek asylum because of death threats against him ( She may get to relocate now…but she has to get out of the country alive first.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Just for drinking from the same cup?! I’m glad I don’t live in Pakistan!”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah! Can you believe it?! And it’s not the only Muslim nation that has such laws. To think we are seriously contemplating Sharia Law in some states makes me tremble. That’s why I’m against any state establishment of religion…Christianity or otherwise. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees freedom of religion (not freedom from religion). Christianity needs no ‘leg up.’ It should prevail (and will – Matt. 16:18). It’s inherent superiority will win out…not the hyper-religious church that pretends their volume can make up for their lack of absolute truth; not any group that makes up with sincerity what is lacked in reality…I mean the real deal…the Church that Jesus died for.”

“Christians? We live in a ‘fallen world.’ There are no guarantees…if you live in the U.S. or Pakistan. We should pray for Asia’s safety (Rom. 12:15), but she (or you) should have no unreasonable expectations. Not pessimistic… just realistic. That’s why heaven is so anticipated!”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to be aware of others’ plights, fight for the right, and trust in Your help; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
