CLARITY – 1-27-18 Fleeting Focus

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 1-27-18

Fleeting Focus

What’s Happening:  “A satellite launch last week to test a new rocket put the satellite (dubbed Humanity Star) into a short-lived orbit (it will decay and fall back to earth being harmlessly burned up in the atmosphere after nine months). It looks kind of like a disco ball and ‘The Humanity Star is intended to serve as a focal point for humanity as every single person on Earth will have the opportunity to see and experience it,’ Rocket Lab, the launcher said ( ‘I know many astronomers are upset at this unnecessary object that will cause light pollution, although again we don’t know its orbit or brightness yet, so we don’t know how bad it will be,’ astrophysicist J. J. Eldridge said on Twitter.”

Knee-jerk Response:  “So if I see a flash of light that might be it, huh?”

Biblical Response:  “Yep…and it might not…it’s only temporary…maybe it’s intended to (kind of like the mission of every shiny object), but don’t lose your focus on the really important things…like faith, family and freedom.”

“Christians? Are we for distraction? Sure, as long as it’s only temporary and it doesn’t take our focus too far afield (2 Tim. 2:22-24). We don’t need to be too serious about fleeting things…we just need to keep the main thing, THE MAIN THING (Heb. 12:2).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, we need Your help in keeping us focused in on the things that really matter, not being unnecessarily distracted towards the shiniest object; in  Jesus’ Name, amen.”   © Alan E.Sargent
