CLARITY – 6-10-19 The Most Important Thing

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -6-10-19

The Most Important Thing

What’s Happening: “In a display of global solidarity, gay pride parades were celebrated over the weekend in Detroit, D.C., Warsaw, etc. Although the Warsaw parade was attended by Mayor Rafal Trzakowski and was mostly peaceful, the others were marred by Neo-Nazis and other protesters, some stampeding when they thought there was gunfire heard (https://www.yahoo.com/news/lgbt-pride-marches-us-interrupted-090526604.html). ‘Literally f****** Nazis are at Motor City Pride right now, please be safe out there y’all,

Even if they deserve it, do not engage. Our safety at our Pride is the most important thing,’ tweeted one attendant. Not much covered by the main-stream media (MSM) was a straight pride parade in Boston, naming Alt-Right (and gay) provacateur Milo Yiannopolous as Marshall (https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/06/straight-pride-parade-milo-yiannopoulos-marshal.html). Brad Pitt’s name and image were used to advertise the event. He said he was not ‘super happy’ about it, either.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Wow! Straight Pride parade. It’s about time!”

Biblical Response:  “Led by a gay guy? I don’t know. He wants to celebrate tolerance when God is not so tolerant of his choice of a lifestyle (1 Cor. 6:9; 1 Tim. 1:10). Sure, society wants to be inclusive, to not judge, but the most quoted scripture: ‘judge not’ (Matt. 7:1) is taken completely out of context (read verse 2). We are not called to tolerance. In fact, we will be judging angels (1 Cor. 6:3). Don’t get me wrong, I am for tolerance….redefined…I call it patience. The scripture even says He is being (seemingly) slow about His promised return because He’s giving more time for sinners to repent (2 Pet. 3:9). As for safety being ‘the most important thing’…not from God’s perspective.”

“Christians? We believe the Lordship of Christ is the most important thing (Rom. 10:9-10). And although Jesus died for all, not all receive Him (John 1:12). It’s kind of like your Grandma giving you a Christmas present, which ,during clean-up, you accidentally  kicked under the couch. If you ask Grandma if she gave you a gift, she will say she did. You, however, never opened (or received the intended benefit of) her ‘free gift’ (Rom. 6:23).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to keep the most important thing the most important thing…and help us to be patient…hating the sin, while loving the sinner (Prov. 29:27 LB); in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 4-13-19 Pronounced: ‘Booty-Judge’

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 4-13-19

Pronounced: ‘Booty-Judge’

What’s Happening: “Pete Bootigieg, gay mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and scheduled to make his bid for the 2020 Presidential race public tomorrow, has been a former colleague of VP Mike Pence, but is now a vocal critic of Pence’s Christian Conservatism. Although they collaborated on economic issues when Pence was Governor of Indiana, they now are on opposite sides, Bootigieg, if he announces he’s a candidate for the Democrat nomination in 2020, will be the first openly gay person ever to run. His campaign just reported raising $7 million this quarter (https://www.yahoo.com/news/inside-buttigiegs-complicated-relationship-pence-100034991–election.html).  ‘If me being gay was a choice, it was a choice that was made far, far above my pay grade. And that’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world would understand: that if you’ve got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me. Your quarrel, sir, is with my creator,’ said Bootigieg.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “See, he can’t help who he is!”

Biblical Response:  “Has he tried? I don’t know… In the first place, I’d capitalize ‘Creator.’ It seems that you would want the favor of Someone you’re accusing of making you gay. Of course, Pete might not think that’s a bad thing. I (and the Scriptures) might disagree – Lev. 18:22, Lev. 13:20, 1 Cor. 6:9, 1 Tim. 1:10, etc. Sometimes, we may feel our making is opposed to popular culture…but the cure is not to change the culture, but to change ourselves….and the only one we have please is God, anyway. It may not be easy, but He’ll supply the right desires and actions that please Him (Phil. 2:13). ”

“Christians? We don’t judge Bootigieg or Pence. Truly THAT is above our pay grade.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us (and others) to resist the temptation to make life all about fulfilling our sexual desires; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 4-5-19 Just Because It’s Popular

CLARITY

Just Because It’s Popular

What’s Happening: “Taken separately, Lori Lightfoot’s recent successful bid for Chicago’s Mayor and ‘Mayor Pete’ Buttigieg’s run for the Democrat nomination for President (he’s a two-term Mayor from South Bend, Indiana) is no big deal…but these are not isolated occurrences. There are now 37 openly LGBT Mayors, 1 Governor (Colorado), 8 Representatives in the House, and 2 Senators in the Senate. The issue has become a non-issue (https://www.yahoo.com/news/lgbt-progress-seen-lightfoots-win-rise-mayor-pete-212023074–election.html). ‘”The real news is not that openly gay candidates are successful, but that being openly gay has become irrelevant. Here are two people with fresh ideas and a new vision for the future. Voters don’t care about their sexual orientation. That’s a sea change,’ said former President Clinton advisor, Richard Socarides.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “What does sexual orientation have to do with anything? If they have good ideas, I say more power to them.”

Biblical Response:  “Thankfully, you are not in charge…GOD  IS! This is still His world (Ps. 95:5). There are many things which are neutral…sexual orientation doesn’t happen to be one of them (Lev. 18:22; 20:13, 1 Cor. 6:9: 1 Tim. 1:10; etc.). And just because a practice has become popular or acceptable, doesn’t make it right. As we continue to spiral downward as a culture, the may be many issues that become non-issues for the majority. What has that got to do with people who follow God?”

“Christians? My main concern is that we might send the wrong signal to the LGBTQ community. While we are to abhor homosexuality, we are not to ostracize the homosexual. Sure, there may be more collateral damage in their practice (many young people have been assaulted by a gay or lesbian babysitter or relative), but in a separation-from-God issue, homosexuality is no worse than any sin. What is to be our attitude toward them? Prov. 29:27 LB says: ‘The good hate the badness of the wicked. The wicked hate the goodness of the good.’ We may not like a person’s behavior, but we are called to show them love.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to love those whose habits we might be repulsed by…there, but or the grace of God, go I; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 11-13-18 “Don We Now Our ‘Gay’ Apparel”

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 11-13-18

“Don We Now Our ‘Gay’ Apparel”

What’s Happening: “An undercover reporter has exposed a Pentecostal church in England for its deliverance ministry ‘conversion therapy’ to gays which includes counseling, prayer and other ‘demeaning’ practices acording to the LGBTQ community (https://www.yahoo.com/news/undercover-reporter-exposes-gay-apos-040318195.html). .

Huffington Post reports that several states and principalities in the U.S. have adopted legislation to protect LGBTQ youth by banning the practice; among these are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and the District of Columbia. ‘Gay’ did not always mean what it predominantly means today.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “It’s terrible what some churches do today!”

Biblical Response:  “What some churches do today may be terrible…but what this or many churches in America who offer homosexual lifestyle change (or counseling) is NOT terrible – it offers hope. Call me old fashioned, but the ‘Gay’ lifestyle is condemned by Scripture. Sure, there are scriptures against it in the Old Testament (Lev. 18:22; 20:13), but the New Testament condemns it, too (1 Cor. 6:9; 1 Tim 1:10). Dressing it up (no pun intended) with a nice word (GAY) does not make the practice any less reprehensible.”

Christians? It may not be politically correct to condemn so acceptable a practice, but I’d rather be in step with God, than popular with the world (1 John 2:15). Christians believe God created them ‘male and female’ (Gen 1:27); Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. But you may say, ‘I was born this way’…this is my proclivity. So? I was born with the ‘proclivity’ to sin, but I ‘don’t let sin rule in my body’ (Rom. 6:12). Sure, I may be tempted to do this or that, but I can resist temptation (James 4:7-8). Will it be hard? Yes. But you do not struggle alone (Psalm 23; Matt. 28:20).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, let us call a spade a spade, even if it’s politically incorrect to do so; help us to embrace the truth that persecution is inevitable if you’re friends with God; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 8-24-18 Confusing

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 8-24-18

Confusing

What’s Happening:  “A Jesuit priest, James Martin, protested that the Catholic Church has not been ‘Building a Bridge’ (the title of his 2017 book) to the LGBTQ Community at the World Meeting of Families that Pope Francis is to address this weekend (https://www.yahoo.com/news/catholic-conference-hears-appeal-church-welcome-gay-people-155514166.html). In a separate news story, the Catholic Church is still reeling over the revelation that its Cardinals, Bishops and Priests have long been involved in a pedophilia ring that includes cover-ups and heinous secret acts of over 1,000 victims for 70 years (http://www.coolconversations.co/pedophilia-catholic-churches/). I’m a little confused and I’ll bet you are, too.. On the one hand, the Catholic Church is to welcome gays and on the other hand to condemn pedophelia?! Don’t they see the conflict here?”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Perhaps you’re being to Puritanical here. That’s why the church is losing membership…a big tent needs to be inclusive.”

Biblical Response:  “I almost don’t know where to start. In the first place, the Puritans were our ancestors and they may have had restrictions on behavior that kept many practises in the closet (which is a myth – there is no closet if God can see through the walls – however, I agree that only activities brought out of the ‘closet’ can be dealt with). Secondly, The church (small ‘c’) may be losing members, but membership that swells due to inclusiveness or ‘modernism’ may not swell the rolls of the Church universal (large ‘C’)\…and maybe it shouldn’t. Moreover, much pedophilia gets its start in the LGBTQ community, though I dare say, they’d rather not talk about that.”

Christians? We are against ‘unnatural affection’ of any kind (Rom. 1:3; 2 Tim. 3:3; Col. 3:5); whether it’s homosexual or heterosexual the consent of the recipient must be a factor, and that within Scriptural bounds. You cannot give encouragement to one unrighteous behavior to disallow another.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give our leaders clear guidance as to what behavior they are to promote and what to plainly condemn

c; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
