CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -8-10-19

Citizenship is Everything

What’s Happening: “The recent (Wednesday) ICE raids, which netted 680 illegal immigrants from seven chicken processing plants in Mississippi, managed to arrest 122 from Mexico, 176 from Guatemala, and 2 from Honduras; according to officials, all these foreign citizens were given future court dates. Although the raids temporarily housed those arrested in nearby air hangars until they were processed, 300 of them were released with instructions to appear in court (https://www.yahoo.com/news/hundreds-mexicans-guatemalans-among-those-114016514.html). Arresting illegal immigrants has been a priority of the Trump presidency.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Leave those poor people alone – they are doing jobs others don’t want – at least at a wage that is less.”

Biblical Response:  “That’s the whole point…if they continue down that path, they will be poor for the foreseeable future…and they are taking what should be American jobs…and the employers are complicit. Employers are opportunists. Capitalism makes them naturally want undesirable jobs done at the least wages possible.- this increases their profits. They take advantage of the illegals’ desperate circumstances to give them a pittance wage for jobs that are otherwise hard to fill. They will continue this practice until laws are enforced and employers are made to check national databases for true eligibility. Industry and hard work are to be rewarded (Prov. 6:6-11; 13:4), but not at the cost of integrity – on the part of the illegal (already trying to circumvent the law by coming here surreptitiously) or the employer. Sure, the price of chicken might go up, but perhaps prices have been artificially low. ‘Cheap’ can be too expensive.”

“Christians? We should be championing the industriousness of the immigrant who is legal, noting that our citizenship is important, too. Obviously, I’m not talking about an earthly citizenship, but a heavenly one (Phil. 1:20; 3:27). While we are to be compassionate toward the illegal immigrants’ plight, we should encourage them to take the slower route to improvement staying in their own country might demand – taking our own advice, at the same time.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to be compassionate, but realize we do no favor by looking the other way; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 8-8-19 Enforcing

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -8-8-19

Enforcing

What’s Happening: “There were 32 arrested in San Francisco by a conglomeration of Federal Agencies, the first action in a year-long commitment to fight crime in the Tenderloin neighborhood, notorious for drug and sex-trafficking. The fact that those arrested were predominantly Honduran nationals is entirely coincidental said the officials who, to not involve local police, have preserved the city’s sanctuary status. Apparently, it is not an issue they want to deal with at this time…or perhaps it just appears that way  (https://www.yahoo.com/news/drug-crackdown-launched-notorious-san-180113653.html). ‘My belief is that the Tenderloin, in fairness, deserves the rule of law every bit as much as other fine neighborhoods in San Francisco,’ said U.S. Attorney David Anderson. ‘This is not an immigration initiative. This is not a deportation initiative. This is a public safety initiative.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Don’t those folks have as much right as any Americans to enjoy the  peaceable society that the rule of law provides?”

Biblical Response:  “They sure do. There’s no sense making a law and then not enforcing it…which is precisely what sanctuary cities are all about. Everybody wants the fruit of a peaceable society…they just want to be seen as merciful to illegal immigrants. Nobody thinks about the Kate Steinly’s who get murdered. Nobody thinks about the illicit drug peddlers or the sex-traffickers who are influencing our children. Nobody thinks about the pets who get drug needles in their paws on their morning walks. Decisions have consequences (Gal. 6:7). Laws that were intended to make it safe can only help if they are enforced. Looking the other way has a tendency to make us disrespect authority in general. This can only lead to anarchy – everyone doing what seems right in his own eyes (Prov. 21:2), and that only leads to chaos and confusion (Jud. 17:6).”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in the rule of law (1 John 3:4), but we also believe in enforcement (Hosea 10:2). If we don’t obey because it’s inconvenient, then the law should be changed, not just ignored.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to take all laws seriously and not set an example of only obeying those laws with which we agree; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

Timing is Everything

What’s Happening: “The migrant caravans traveling through Mexico (primarily from the Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras – though Mexicans have swelled ranks and Trump claims there may  be some Middle Easterners and MS-13 gang members, too) have 1,300 miles to go and only 14 days to the midterm elections – too late for Democrats (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6307043/SECOND-migrant-caravan-1-000-heading-following-first.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490). ‘Every time you see a Caravan, or people illegally coming, or attempting to come, into our Country illegally, think of and blame the Democrats for not giving us the votes to change our pathetic Immigration Laws! Remember the Midterms! So unfair to those who come in legally,’ Trump said.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I thought Soros and other Democrats were funding the caravans.”

Biblical Response:  “Perhaps. Since no one could possibly arrive before the midterms, that seems unlikely…they are probably just trying to travel before it gets too cold. But a ‘Catch and Release’ policy is probably pretty attractive to them. I’ve heard figures above 99% that don’t make assigned court dates. They just melt into the 11,000,000 already here.”

“Christians? We should be grateful that missionary efforts have been made easier – told to ‘go’ (Matt, 28:18-20), it’s great to have your audience come to you. Still, we can’t encourage aliens to enter our country illegally. I mean, I feel bad that they have violence, drugs, and unemployment in their own countries; some genuinely are seeking asylum. Still, don’t Americans have a prior obligation to their own families? If we need to amend our immigration systems let’s get about that. After all, God controls much of that doesn’t He?”

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;” (Acts 17:26 KJV)

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, let our elected representatives know Your plan and enact laws that work alongside You; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 10-18-18 It’s All About Strategy

CLARITY

It’s All About Strategy

What’s Happening: “It looks like the caravans are it again, most of them from Honduras, and they’ve swollen in size from 1,000 to 2,000 (some say as high as 4,000). They are scheduled to arrive just before the midterms (strategy?). There are some efforts being made by Guatemala and Mexico to dissuade the caravan (and by threats by Trump), but the ‘coyotes’ and the cartels have other designs…and then there’s allegations of Soros funding (https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/oct/16/honduras-begs-migrant-caravan-turn-back/). Judd, a border patrol agent said, ‘What they do is they artificially create holes that they can then smuggle their higher profit behind us. It’s a brilliant strategy on the (part of the) cartels.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Can you blame the people in the caravans? They are just seeking a better life here!”

Biblical Response:  “No, I can’t blame anyone for seeking a better life…especially now with the latest good news on our economy. Still, if everyone takes the jobs that are available, maybe they won’t be available much longer. And, it’s a wonderful opportunity for the Church. These people have already identified themselves as seekers…so let’s let them know Someone who can really meet their needs! I mean, the U.S. government is generous, especially to those who claim asylum. But that’s nothing compared to God (Phil. 4:19).”

“Christians? The real solution is good old fashioned missionary work (Matt. 28:18-20); creating such a life in Central America that the U.S. loses its appeal. Do you think those parents want to send their children off? Immigrants are known for their work ethic…wouldn’t that best be applied there? Let’s take that money we give ($65 Million to Honduras) and designate it for battling the cartels…eliminate the motivation to escape violence and the caravans will disappear.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to have a strategy of our own; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 6-23-18

It’s TIME for Truth

What’s Happening:  “Appearing on this week’s TIME magazine’s cover is a 2-year-old Honduran girl crying up to a photoshopped image of President Trump, but the deception doesn’t stop there. Further investigation reveals she wasn’t separated from the mother who kidnapped her from her unsuspecting father (who is still in Honduras)…and the mother has been deported before (https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/truth-about-girl-on-cover-destroys-time-magazines-credibility-she-was-never-separated/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=CTBreaking&utm_campaign=breaking&utm_content=conservative-tribune). ‘On July 9, 2013, she was transferred to ICE ERO custody. On July 18, 2013, Sanchez was removed to Honduras under expedited removal,’ according to an ICE statement.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Oops!’”

Biblical Response:  “That would be my response, too… except many people believe the Fake News the media keeps pumping out. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want what is happening on our southern border any more than the next guy. It’s just that I think the problem is different AND the solution is different. What is the problem if not separating families? The problem is trying to enter the U.S. illegally. The solution: immigration reform. People willingly risk their lives and the lives of their family and try to enter illegally because we have not made it easy for them to do it legally…but dealing in falsehood is not the answer! (John 8:32)”

“Christians? Again, what a great opportunity! I haven’t heard of any churches who have opened up their facilities for housing…or any individuals who have opened up their homes (of course that may not be judged newsworthy or fit the media’s narrative). So, if there’s anyone out there who needs warm and dry housing, I have a couch. Oh, by the way….we will be praying over our food, and my wife teaches English at school.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to extend a hand of Christian compassion to those who truly seek asylum…or help us not to claim that moniker as our own; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 4-3-18 Safety is Costly

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 4-3-18

Safety is Costly

What’s Happening:  “If you thought the ‘Caravan’ referred to a Dodge, you were partially correct, but it’s not the American car brand…rather, it’s over 1,200 migrants trying to ‘dodge’ the U.S.’s LEGAL asylum system and gain admission to the U.S. by joining up with Alex Mensing’s Pueblos Sin Fronteras (People Without Borders) group. It’s not sitting so well with Trump’s CBP (http://5newsonline.com/2018/04/01/immigrant-caravan-heading-to-us-mexico-border-sparks-trumps-concern/).  Trump tweeted, ‘Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release. Getting more dangerous. ‘Caravans’ coming. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL,’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Everybody deserves a safe home.”

Biblical Response:  “Really? I can’t even find that in the Bible. In fact, the only ‘safe’ home Man ever knew (the Garden of Eden) he got kicked out of (Gen. 3:22-24). The right to ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ is not in the Constitution (it’s in the Declaration of Independence). It is listed as an ‘inalienable’ right, but it also said that ‘to secure these rights’ governments are formed; that includes the governments of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador from whence the majority of these refugees hail. Our rights were secured by the blood of patriots. Why not theirs?”

“Christians? Sacrifice is always the cost of freedom (John 8:36; Rom. 5:8). I’m afraid if the refugees are willing to make the sacrifice of the trek, we may be taking them from a sacrifice for which their heritage back in their respective homes will reap great benefits, We certainly have.”
