CLARITY – 8-8-19 Enforcing

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -8-8-19

Enforcing

What’s Happening: “There were 32 arrested in San Francisco by a conglomeration of Federal Agencies, the first action in a year-long commitment to fight crime in the Tenderloin neighborhood, notorious for drug and sex-trafficking. The fact that those arrested were predominantly Honduran nationals is entirely coincidental said the officials who, to not involve local police, have preserved the city’s sanctuary status. Apparently, it is not an issue they want to deal with at this time…or perhaps it just appears that way  (https://www.yahoo.com/news/drug-crackdown-launched-notorious-san-180113653.html). ‘My belief is that the Tenderloin, in fairness, deserves the rule of law every bit as much as other fine neighborhoods in San Francisco,’ said U.S. Attorney David Anderson. ‘This is not an immigration initiative. This is not a deportation initiative. This is a public safety initiative.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Don’t those folks have as much right as any Americans to enjoy the  peaceable society that the rule of law provides?”

Biblical Response:  “They sure do. There’s no sense making a law and then not enforcing it…which is precisely what sanctuary cities are all about. Everybody wants the fruit of a peaceable society…they just want to be seen as merciful to illegal immigrants. Nobody thinks about the Kate Steinly’s who get murdered. Nobody thinks about the illicit drug peddlers or the sex-traffickers who are influencing our children. Nobody thinks about the pets who get drug needles in their paws on their morning walks. Decisions have consequences (Gal. 6:7). Laws that were intended to make it safe can only help if they are enforced. Looking the other way has a tendency to make us disrespect authority in general. This can only lead to anarchy – everyone doing what seems right in his own eyes (Prov. 21:2), and that only leads to chaos and confusion (Jud. 17:6).”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in the rule of law (1 John 3:4), but we also believe in enforcement (Hosea 10:2). If we don’t obey because it’s inconvenient, then the law should be changed, not just ignored.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to take all laws seriously and not set an example of only obeying those laws with which we agree; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 6-19-18 Paying the Price

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 6-19-18

Paying the Price

What’s Happening:  “You drive over 100mph and you pay the price…at least in southern Texas…or if you try to smuggle illegals into the U. S. (which may be the case…at least the five killed and the other nine injured seem to be undocumented)…who knew the subsequent crash would lead to injuries, murder charges and the destruction of an SUV (the price  – unintended consequences – apparently not unusual)? (https://www.yahoo.com/news/texas-border-control-crash-leaves-221109363.html).  ‘The vehicle was traveling around 100 miles an hour,’ Dimmit County Sheriff Boyd reported. ‘The vehicle ran off the road and caught gravel and then tried to re-correct and then caused the vehicle to turn over several times.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “A little excitement!”

Biblical Response:  “You think? I guess it’s better to seek asylum with your “family’…even if children are separated from ‘parents.’ A high-speed chase may be ho-hum for the Border Patrol, but I dare-say the crash and subsequent fireball weren’t.”

“Christians? Of course, we’re for legal immigration and against human trafficking…smuggling or sexual.  Paying the price? Not so much…Jesus has already done that (Rom. 6:23). The law of reaping and sowing (Gal. 6:7), however, still may cost something (Rom. 6:23 has to do with eternal life).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to consider the costs before we act; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
