 CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 10-7-20

Be Sure

What’s Happening: “Yesterday, the National Review wrote an article about a memo from then CIA head John Brennan that detailed a brief of President Obama of the approval of a plan by Hillary Clinton to vilify Donald Trump to distract from her use of a private email server in 2016. Mr. Brennan was deposed yesterday, along with former FBI Director, James Comey, concerning the email and the latter said he could not remember any such memo. The alleged collusion then caused the creation of  a dossier that was created by Christopher Steele (allegedly paid for by the Clinton campaign) that was used to get  permission to spy on Carter Page of the Trump campaign…which collusion has been the subject of much of most of Trump’s time in office (https://www.yahoo.com/news/dni-releases-cia-documents-hillary-204337457.html). Quoting from the article: ‘The heavily-redacted CIA memo references ‘an exchange discussing U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s approval of a plan concerning U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump and Russian hackers hampering U.S. elections as a means of distracting the public from her use of a private email server.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “That’s old news, isn’t it?”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah…at least that’s what the Democrat Party hopes you’ll think with the 2020 election looming. Accusations of Russian collusion is what led to a vote by the House of Representatives to impeach last February…and that’s this year. To now have the revelation that it was all a set-up (no revelation to some) is a big deal…of course, ignored by the main-stream media (they ran not one second of this story yesterday). But, as the Scripture warns, ‘be sure your sin will find you out’ (Num. 32:23). There may be no repercussions here, but that does not mean there will be no consequence (Mal. 3:16-18). I love how the Living Bible renders those verses:

‘Then those who feared and loved the Lord spoke often of him to each other. And he had a Book of Remembrance drawn up in which he recorded the names of those who feared him and loved to think about him. ‘They shall be mine,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘in that day when I make up my jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares an obedient and dutiful son.  Then you will see the difference between God’s treatment of good men and bad, between those who serve him and those who don’t.’ (Mal. 3:16-18 LB)”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in final justice, alright….there’s no escaping that. Will it come in time for  this election? It might…we’ll see. Maybe the Lord has something else in mind…aborting over 60 million is hard to overlook (God forgive us).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, while we believe in final justice, we also believe (and are counting on) the shed blood of Christ; in Jesus’ Name, amen.

CLARITY – 2-17-20 The Definition of Insanity

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-17-20

The Definition of Insanity

What’s Happening: “The Democrat-controlled House (read: Adam Schiff) is so livid over the fact that Trump’s approval rating actually went up after he was acquitted of impeachment charges in the Senate, that a second impeachment is being noised about. This time they are accusing him of ‘abuse of power’ by tweeting he would like to see a reduction of sentence recommendation from the DOJ for convicted friend, Roger Stone (which AG Robert Barr did BEFORE Trump tweeted. (https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/round-2-do-democrats-want-impeach-donald-trump-again-123466).  Less than a month after the acquittal,  Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said, ‘…it would be a blatant abuse of power if President Trump has in fact intervened to reverse the recommendations of career prosecutors at the Department of Justice.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “If he abused again, shouldn’t he be impeached again?”

Biblical Response:  “In the first place, Trump was just charged with abuse of power (that’s what impeachment is – it’s the Senate trial, which then ensues, that can find him innocent or guilty, and remove him from office… after the testimony of 17 witnesses in the House trial, the Senate chose to acquit). I think the House is just looking for an excuse to try Trump again. The Scripture says, ‘…BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED (Matt. 18:16 NASU). 17 was plenty. Besides, isn’t that the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over, but expecting different results?

Not until the next election and the possibility of a different House will there be anything but TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).

“Christians? We believe the truth will set you free (Jn. 8:32). Until then, I guess we’re still imprisoned by small minds. Oh well, we did put them in charge.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to no longer be divided by impassioned anger, but united by a common peace; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 1-31-20 The Value of a Witness

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 1-31-20

The Value of a Witness

What’s Happening: “In a stunning statement late last night, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-LA) wrote the trial manager’s ‘proved’ Trump had made an inappropriate call to the Ukrainian President, that no additional witnesses were needed, and that the President’s actions, while inappropriate, didn’t rise to the level of a high crime or misdemeanor and should not be removed for office…that what elections were for (https://www.yahoo.com/news/lamar-alexander-says-charges-against-trump-are-proved-but-will-vote-against-witnesses-041858313.html). Alexander wrote specifically: ‘It was inappropriate for the President to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation, But,’ he added, ‘the Constitution does not give the Senate the power to remove the president from office and ban him from this year’s ballot simply for actions that are inappropriate.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I think the whole thing was a sham from the get-go!”

Biblical Response:  “Beginning from BEFORE Trump’s inauguration, why would you think that (tongue placed firmly in my sarcastic cheek)? Seriously, I’m all in favor of additional witnesses (as if 17 in the House Impeachment hearing were not enough!), but even as Bolton’s leaked comments from his upcoming book reveal, there’s nothing we do not already know. We’ve known from the beginning that Trump speaks his mind (maybe that’s why his fans like him…he’s real), but the electorate didn’t have much of a choice in 2016. And maybe we needed a rabble-rouser to ‘drain the swamp.’ In any case, his improved economy and an all-time joblessness will probably overcome folks reluctance in 2020.”

“Christians? We believe in witnesses. In fact, we believe that’s how truth is established (Matt. 18:19-20). Further, we believe God was not satisfied with the obligation of a witness to testify, That’s why He commissioned witnesses (Acts 1:8). He must have considered them important because they were the last words Jesus spoke on earth. Have you testified lately?”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to be willing to follow the Great Commission (Mk. 16:15-16) that the whole truth might be told; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 12-19-19 ‘Another Date That Will Live in Infamy’

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 12-19-19

‘Another Date That Will Live in Infamy’

What’s Happening: “The historical and biblical references were everywhere, at least by the Republicans, who stood united with four Dems that would not support the articles (three voted against and Tulsi Gabbard voted ‘present’), as the House voted impeachment yesterday. The references were almost all Republican-cited and included the one above, a reference to another significant December event (https://www.yahoo.com/news/republicans-invoke-jesus-pearl-harbor-trump-impeachment-211048856.html). ‘There’s also, in addition to Christmas being something we celebrate in December, the Boston Tea Party took place in December, but also in December, but also on Dec. 7, 1941, a horrific act happened in the United States, and it’s one that President Roosevelt said this is a date that will live in infamy. Today, Dec. 18, 2019, is another date that will live in infamy,’ said Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.).”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “To quote still again, isn’t this ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (Shakespeare had a play by that title)?”

Biblical Response:  “Well, I wouldn’t say nothing…though it’s just a charge and the Senate, who will hold the trial and has the power to remove Trump from office, will likely acquit. It may seem useless drama – and the main-stream media has created quite a circus-like atmosphere over it in their pursuit of ratings – although most of the polls show little or no change – and the voters will decide in November of 2020, anyway. The above-linked article says that, ‘When Jesus was falsely accused of treason, Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers. During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than Democrats afforded this President in this process.’ If you want to read the biblical account, go to Matthew’s Gospel, Chapter 27, Verses 1-26.’”

“Christians? Oh, we believe everybody ought to have their day in court (Ex. 18:16). It’s just that Jesus, for our sake and to fulfill prophecy (Ps. 39:2-9), chose to remain silent.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give us discerning hearts and the trust that You will see to it that justice is rendered; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 7-23-19 Promises Stymied

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -7-23-19

Promises Stymied

What’s Happening: “Recently, it was revealed by the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) that the Trump administration has not built a single mile of new wall – they have only repaired 51 miles of existing fence. The CBP said, however, they will continue to build 205 miles of wall from funds seized by Trump earlier this year from the Treasury Forfeiture Fund after the partial government shutdown. Some say obstructive Democrats are to blame (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-not-built-single-mile-084326790.html). A senior official in the Trump administration said, ‘The wall projects are moving along as quickly as practicably possible given the unprecedented obstruction from Democrat lawmakers to protect and prolong open borders.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Sounds like promises were too easy to make…too hard to keep.”

Biblical Response:  “Perhaps, but it could also be as the official said above. That, and a Democrat majority in the House. Unless you control the Congress and the Executive Branch, it’s hard to get anything done…except for bi-partisan infrastructure projects – oh, that’s right; a House preoccupied-with-impeachment won’t even address that. ‘The Squad’ and the other newly-elected freshmen (or should I say the more PC ‘freshpersons’), despite Speaker Pelosi’s warnings, seem to have collusion and obstruction blinders on. Now, who’s guilty of obstruction?”

“Christians? We are not unacquainted with promises made…(Deut. 28)….it’s just that we are used to promises being kept. God is faithful to His promises (Ps. 71:22), but power is necessary. Faithfulness and power go hand in hand…a power perhaps Trump assumed, but was taken away in the election of 2018.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, let us be slow to promise, but faithful to look to Your power; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 6-1-19 A Proposition

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -6-1-19

A Proposition

What’s Happening: “And, although it’s the beginning of the marriage month, we’re not talking marriage proposal…in fact, it’s the equivalent of political divorce: impeachment! After the release of the Mueller briefing (I really don’t know what to call it – he did not allow any questions,,,in fact, the Congress was on recess…), there was increased talk of impeachment proceedings.  There is no hint of friendliness between Nancy Pelosi and Bob Mueller…he all but said the ‘I’ word, but she wants to hold off as long as she can…it’s really all about the 2020 election (https://www.yahoo.com/news/mueller-intended-break-democrats-apos-100029578.html). In the linked article one will get the media’s slant toward impeachment and their obvious bias toward the Democrats’ clear desire for ‘divorce,’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Involvement with the Russians deserves impeachment!”

Biblical Response:  “If it could be proved, which the Mueller report and subsequent briefing said it couldn’t. Where does that leave us? With half of the country – including Bob Mueller, Nadler, and all House Democrats – hating Trump. Not a good place, but when has mere hatred been impeachable? It’s a ‘proposition’ now, but may become a ‘proceeding’ Tuesday. We’ll see if emotion rules the day or the ‘cooler’-headed Pelosi. Still, as the scripture says: “Man proposes, but God disposes.” (Prov. 19:21 LB). Whatever you call it (proposition or proceeding), it remains to be seen how successful they’ll be when God is in the equation..

“Christians? Are all Christians in favor of Trump? Probably not. They are, however, in favor of the rule of law (at least they should be – Rom. 13:10). Jerry Nadler reminds us that even Presidents are not above the rule of law…as if we are to assume the President is guilty. There are, so far, no provable, chargeable, indications of collusion or obstruction of justice. Of course, if you’re a never-Trumper, what does that matter?”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father,  help us to get beyond allegation and emotion to the pursuit of the truth; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 4-19-19 Kinda Sorta

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 4-19-19

Kinda Sorta

What’s Happening: “How can two factions read the same thing and arrive at two completely different conclusions? Perspective…or should I say bias? Independent Counsel Bob Mueller’s report was released in its redacted form yesterday and the GOP and the Democrats couldn’t be further apart in their reactions. The Democrats want to investigate further; some calling for impeachment, others want to have Barr and later Mueller testify before Congress. The GOP says it fully exonerates the President. Trump tweeted ‘Game Over’ (https://www.yahoo.com/news/mueller-report-sets-fresh-battle-100030902.html). ‘The country also has a right to ask when are you going to legislate and not investigate? Is this oversight or overreach? asked Trump’s Special Assistant Kellyanne Conway.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Where’s the truth?”

Biblical Response:  “Probably somewhere in between. I mean, if only some of Trump’s aides had not done what Trump ordered in the heat of the moment, we might be looking at a Pence Presidency (which may be why the Democrats are a little hesitant to really pursue impeachment).”

“Christians? This is why we are cautioned to examine the ‘whole counsel of God’ (Acts 20:27). For instance, taking Titus 2:11 out of context might support universalism (that all are going to be saved).

`For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people.’ (Tit. 2:11)

What about that scripture in John 1?

‘But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name:’ (John 1:20)

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to be patient enough for the truth to emerge (‘Truth stands the test of time, lies are soon exposed.’ – Prov. 12:19); in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 1-4-19 Not Universal

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 1-4-19

Not Universal

What’s Happening: “Although (and not unexpectedly) Nancy Pelosi won the election of Speaker of the House, it was not unanimous (actually 12 Democrats did not vote for her). In fact, the only thing unanimous about the vote was the unanimous opposition of House Republicans (https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrats-didnt-vote-nancy-pelosi-house-speaker-202202741.html). She did not take impeachment of the President off the table after her election (https://dcalert.com/2019/01/03/pelosi-vague-about-impeaching-indicting-trump/), but left other lieutenants to introduce bills to do just that (https://www.dailywire.com/news/39931/breaking-democrats-introduce-bill-eliminate-ryan-saavedra?utm_source=cnemail&utm_medium=email&utm_content=010419-news&utm_campaign=position1). What will come of it all? Will the Democrats legislate or investigate? It remains to be seen.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I thought the government was ‘shut down’…how can anybody do anything?”

Biblical Response:  “‘…mostly dead is still slightly alive’…as was remarked by Miracle Max (played by Billy Christol) in the Princess Bride. Or, you might say: ‘Shutdown, but not as you think of SHUT DOWN.’ Or as some would say, ‘The show must go on.’ In any case, the above articles (links) paint an ongoing, but not universal picture. It might do well to have a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude.”

“Christians? Although unanimity is seldom reached, unity should be sought (Heb. 12:14). Sometimes it is not possible (Rom. 12:18), but still it should be sought.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give our elected leaders the civility that elevates us all, not the incivility that only underscores barbarism; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 11-29-18 The Cure

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 11-29-18

The Cure

What’s Happening: “You could probably have titled today’s blog: “You’re Fired,” but President Trump had little to do with the impeachment Wednesday of three (of the five) West Virginia Supreme Court Justices (actually, additionally Justice Menis Ketchum retired and agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud and the remaining Justice will probably be impeached, too). This is the cure West Virginia’s Founders (and America’s too) created for “lifetime” appointments (https://leadpatriot.com/three-members-of-wv-supreme-court-impeached-in-one-day-then-comes-number-four/347/). Allow me to highly recommend a book: Impeachment: Restraining an Overactive Judiciary, by historian and political activist/Christian, and my friend, David Barton (https://wallbuilders.com/summer-1997/).”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “They’re all Democrats and the legislature is predominantly Republican…isn’t that fishy?”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah, but those same legislators were elected by a majority, too. That’s the way our system works. Winston Churchill may have been quoting Richard M. Langworth when he famously quipped: “Democracy is the worst form of government…except for all the others.” There might be a higher standard for our judges, but there should be. When you appoint (some states vote) a judge, you are setting up a man or woman to decide the fates of those that come before them. That’s an awesome power and responsibility that shouldn’t be taken lightly.”

“Christians? Probably the most quoted verse comes from Matthew 7:1: “Judge not…” The problem is that almost nobody quotes that verse in context. The rest of the verse is: “…that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” (Matt. 7:1-2 KJV) We are called to judge angels (1 Cor. 6:3)…of course nobody wants to live the kind of life that qualifies them to be anybody’s judge.” Of course, what qualifies anyone is Christ’s sacrifice.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to live a life above reproach, not to just settle for the world’s standards;  in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

Dumb Like a Fox

What’s Happening:  “Mark Levin, Constitutional scholar, and former Chief of Staff for Attorney General Edwin Meese under President Reagan, said on Fox News Tuesday night (to Sean Hannity): ‘The general counsel for the Clinton mob family, Lanny Davis, he had his client (Michael Cohen) plead guilty to two counts of criminality that don’t exist..’ (https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/levin-trumps-clear-clinton-lawyer-cohen-plead-crimes-dont-exist/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=newsletter-CT&utm_campaign=dailypm&utm_content=conservative-tribune). Trump supporters will hope he’s right…the DNC will hope he’s wrong.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Is that an ‘Oops!’?”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…it might end up in the Supreme Court…which may be altered  by the hearings for Kavanaugh…which begin September 4. I guess we won’t know for a while…though the mainstream press will negative prognosticate, no doubt. Cohen says he has more to say, and Manafort has another trial to go. I guess it all comes down to who wins the midterms.”

Christians? Sometimes, there is distraction, but we are called to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves (Matt. 10:16).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to choose leaders with no hidden agendas…whose promises of transparency are only exceeded by their performance; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
