A Biblical Response to Current Events – 5-5-20
The ‘Impenetrable’ High Ground
What’s Happening: “Venezuelan dictator/president Nicolas Maduro had to be breathing a sigh of relief when his forces captured 13 ‘terrorists’ (among them, two American citizens) in what he claims was a foiled beach invasion kidnapping attempt. To date (Monday), Maduro’s forces have left eight people dead on the beach, arrested 114 in the attack and are searching for another 92. The aforementioned captured, Airen Barry and Luke Denman, are employees of Florida-based Silvercorp, whose owner has claimed responsibility for the attack. Both of the men are reportedly U.S. Army vets, having served in Iraq and Afghanistan (https://news.yahoo.com/venezuela-two-us-citizens-arrested-015639610.html). Quoting from the The Telegraph article yesterday: ‘Venezuelan authorities said on Monday that they arrested another eight accused ‘mercenaries’ in a coastal town and showed images on state TV of several unidentified men handcuffed and lying prone in a street. The Venezuelan government said that more than 25,000 troops have been mobilized to hunt for other rebels operating in the country.’”
Knee-Jerk Response: “Didn’t we try something like this in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba?”
Biblical Response: “Sort of. The U. S. Government freely admits the Bay of Pigs debacle. To date, they have not claimed any governmental involvement in this latest attempt. It is no news that we do not recognize the Maduro government and actively support Juan Guaido as the legitimate leader of Venezuela. The current crisis has led the socialist country through a mass exodus of five million of its citizens over the last several months.(as if we needed the example of failed socialist policies…come to think of it, maybe we do – at least some Bernie supporters do). Unfortunately, Maduro’s forces hold the ‘high ground.’ It’s hard to dethrone anyone who also commands the military – at least not without a lot of bloodshed.”
“Is there any way out of this? Maybe. Whatever course is taken, it better involve an acknowledgement of Who truly holds the high ground…or I see little that will prevent violence and huge loss of life.”
“Christians? We believe in the concept of higher perspective. The Creator holds the highest and our trust of Him only makes sense (Ps. 33:13-15). When we receive from Him His plan and effect it (Is. 55:8-9), we know it’s because He knows better from His perspective.”
Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray: “Heavenly Father, help us to see with new eyes from an elevated perspective…one Whose wisdom is unassailable; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
