A Biblical Response to Current Events – 7-7-20
What’s Happening: “Joseph V. Micallef, a writer for Military.com, in an opinion piece published yesterday, thinks the story that’s been surfacing repeatedly from confirmed and unconfirmed ‘anonymous sources’ is bunk…but well-managed bunk. To review, the Taliban are allegedly being paid bounties to kill, in Afghanistan, American soldiers. And the media quotes unnamed anonymous intelligence sources as ‘proof’ that this is going on. And they are making a big brouhaha over the issue saying that the Trump administration is feckless in its response…to an alleged threat…from a known enemy…allegedly funded by another known enemy…which is ‘confirmed’ by ‘anonymous sources…for what amounts to a paltry sum anyway. RRiigghhtt….says the author, calling in a ‘non-event’ (https://www.yahoo.com/news/stories-russian-bounties-us-troops-190802515.html). Quoting from the article: ‘Time will tell whether the Russian bounty story is true; a carefully spun repackaging of existing facts; or completely bogus. Whomever is in the background stage managing this story to the international press, however, is doing a brilliant job.’”
Knee-Jerk Response: “Oh, no! An enemy paid to kill its enemies! Isn’t that what warfare is? Or am I missing something here?”
Biblical Response: “Nope…that pretty much sums it up. Whether the Syrians are paid by the Russians, or the Taliban is being paid by the Russians…the result is still the death of American soldiers. A tragedy, for sure, but one of the outcomes of warfare…expected…tragic, but expected…hopefully in not too great numbers. That the Taliban are allegedly being paid additional sums (‘bounties’) by the Russians is just hearsay…but still no big deal. In any case, for something that is alleged, there has to be someone willing to go ‘on the record’ for there to be credibility to any witness. The scripture doesn’t say ‘out of the mouths of two or more ‘anonymous sources’ shall truth be established,’ but witnesses (Matt. 18:16).”
“Christians? We believe in the establishment of truth (see the scripture reference, above), but the witness must be willing to speak publicly, non anonymously. Anyone can allege anything…and, even if this is true, it’s not unexpected.”
Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray: “Heavenly Father, help our leaders to not overreact to alleged expected actions…not to say that all adversarial actions shouldn’t be dealt with summarily…just not to overreact; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
