CLARITY – 12-30-19 Inherent Superiority

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 12-30-19

Inherent Superiority

What’s Happening: “The New York Times printed an op-ed Friday that was so offensive it lost subscribers, had to defend its position, and updated the article with a correction. Why all the brouhaha? Because the article speaks of the Ashkenazi Jews as genetically superior…justifying racism, eugenics, and nationalism. The article referenced a 2005 paper that promoted ‘a racist hypothesis.’ The New York Times may have printed a correction, but they mostly defended its position saying that ‘culture and history drive Jewish achievements’ ( ‘After publication, Mr. Stephens (the article’s author) and his editors learned that one of the paper’s authors, who died in 2016, promoted racist views. Mr. Stephens was not endorsing the study or its authors’ views, but it was a mistake to cite it uncritically.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Oops! No wonder folks were offended. Is there really a race of inherently superior people?”

Biblical Response:  “No…and yes. Let me explain.  No…indeed, if anything, we all are inherently inferior. (Is. 53:6; Rom. 3:23). And it is this inferiority that is passed along (Acts 17:26). And yes…There IS an inherent superiority of those who trace their lineage to God through Jesus (John 14:6; Rom. 8:16-17).

“Are Jews inherently superior? Yes, but then there’s the whole subject of what it means to be a Jew (Rom. 2:28-29). In fact, these benefits are only for those who deliberately choose to make Jesus Lord (Rom. 10:9-10); they come by blood alright…HIS blood! (Heb. 9:19-28).”

“Christians? We believe that inherent inferiority can be the motivation for a desire for inherent superiority (Rom. 4:16). And, of course, there is a cultural inherency. It’s like being an American: people line up to come here because of the benefits our Constitution provides for us all.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to not look down with pity on those who subscribe allegiance to another god, but to recommend with gratitude and grace the relationship we have found with Jehovah; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

May I indulge in a little self-promotion? Many of you read CLARITY every day…and you hopefully forward it on to still others. Some even subscribe from the website. Thanks! (One mother wrote that she wanted to subscribe to read it to her children everyday – read away!) However you get CLARITY, would you consider donating on the website? I’m happy to find useful purpose in helping folks stay informed and supplying what I think God has to say on the subjects of the day…still, I want to get this word out to others…which is what I’ll do with your gifts. Thanks in advance.

CLARITY – 9-10-18 Anonymous Denials (#NotMe)

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 9-10-18

Anonymous Denials (#NotMe)

What’s Happening:  “The number of official denials is over thirty and will likely go higher as an anonymous memo purported to be from “a senior administration official’ was published by the New York Times (NYT) as an op-ed piece…Trump says the author could be guilty of treason  ( ‘It doesn’t seem to be anybody very high up because everybody very high up has already said, ‘It wasn’t me,’ Trump is reported to have said on Friday. ”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “‘Somebody’ is not nobody…or is it?”

Biblical Response:  “Nobody wants to take credit for what may be eclipsed by news on the Miss America Pageant…or Hurricane Florence…or Obama’s re-entry into the national dialogue…or North Korea’s 70th Anniversary parade, etc. Who knows…and furthermore…who cares? The NYT claims it is accurate (though they may have authored it themselves); the administration denies it, and nobody wants to take credit for it. I’d reprint the alleged ‘memo,’ but I might just be repeating lies.”

“Christians? Sounds like something directly out of the enemy’s playbook (John 10:10). The ‘father of lies’ might be an apropos name (John 8:44)…the memo certainly sows ‘discord among the brethren’ (Acts 15:2), which may have been the enemy’s design all along. We should remember it’s our knowledge of the truth that sets us free (John 8:32). Truth is not arbitrary or  up to opinion.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to pursue the truth, but not make a mountain (true or not) out of a molehill; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
