Potential Trumps Certainty

What’s Happening: “With the Nevada Caucus coming up on the 22nd and the South Carolina Primary coming up on the 29th, Amy Klobuchar’s ‘big tent’ stance on abortion may be a welcome philosophy…I guess we’ll see. That is pretty much the sentiment of a Yahoo News article by Jon Ward that appeared on the 12th, detailing most of the Democrat front-runners’ stands on the pro-choice/pro-life debate (https://www.yahoo.com/news/klobuchars-big-tent-stance-on-abortion-could-appeal-to-southern-democrats-232930989.html). ‘I am strongly pro-choice. I have always been pro-choice. But I believe we’re a big-tent party, and there are pro-life Democrats, and they are part of our party. I think we need to build a big tent. We need to bring people in instead of shutting them out,’ said Klobuchar.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I think the biggest issue in Democrat’s minds is who can beat Trump.”

Biblical Response:  “That may well be…and that’s the bottom line for some. But for others, it’s all about life. Most Democrat candidates personally stand on the pro-choice side (I mean, it is in their party platform). Where does God stand, and why? Potential outweighs certainty. If a baby is allowed to be born he or she might be born again….and who knows what good will be done (only God)? Of course, then, there’s the certainty of death. No good can come from a life never lived.”

“The following scripture comes to mind:

‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.’ (John 10:10 NASU)’

That pretty much sums it up for me.”

“Christians? We were known for catching children (the first century ‘pro-lifers’) being tossed into the Tiber in the early church. If a child was unwanted, Romans would just throw them away. Christians standing below bridges would try to catch those that were being so tossed.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to make a difference and forgive our selfishness; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 10-30-19

Denied

It’s Happening: “Last Sunday, in a South Carolina Catholic Church, history was made…Vice President and 2020 Democrat Presidential hopeful Joe Biden was denied holy communion by a priest saying, any ‘public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.’ Rev.Robert Morey, the priest of Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Florence refused to serve Vice President Biden because the Catholic Church is vehemently Pro-Life, and Biden, though his philosophy on the issue has been varied over the years (recently – in June – dropping his long-standing support of the Hyde Amendment which blocks government funding of abortions), he considers the issue a private one now (https://www.yahoo.com/news/catholic-priest-denies-joe-biden-144747433.html). ‘Sadly, this past Sunday, I had to refuse Holy Communion to Former Vice President Joe Biden,’ Morey was quoted. ‘Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other and the Church. Our actions should reflect that.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “So, I’m a Protestant…does that make any difference to me?”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…maybe not. It really depends on God’s posture on the subject. Let’s see what He has to say:  ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood…” (Lev. 17:11) Life at least begins at the circulation of the blood…some say at conception…  ‘I will give thanks unto thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…’ (Ps.139:14) ‘…thou didst form my inward parts: Thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb.’ (Ps 139:13)  Hmmm…seems obvious to me.

“Christians? We could have the argument as to whether Catholics or Protestants are Christians…that’s a subject for another blog. Still, there is no doubt that God seems to be for the life of the unborn…and certainly a priest has the right (some would correctly say the responsibility) to serve whom he will in Communion (1 Cor. 11:27-28). Of course, maybe Mr. Biden should not have presented himself for Communion.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give us the courage of our convictions and to pay whatever price that may cost; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 5-31-19 A Heartbeat Away

CLARITY

A Heartbeat Away

What’s Happening: “It’s hard to believe, but a Democrat Governor, John Bel Edwards, signed a bipartisan anti-abortion bill into law in Louisiana yesterday, making abortion illegal if a heartbeat can be detected – as early as six weeks in some pregnancies. In so doing, the Democratic Governor was only being consistent, however. Although he supports LGBTQ rights, a minimum wage increase, and many feminist initiatives (common liberal Democrat positions), he is also pro-life…quite an anomaly for a liberal Democrat (https://www.yahoo.com/news/louisiana-democratic-governor-signs-heartbeat-220316274.html). ‘I know there are many who feel just as strongly as I do on abortion and disagree with me — and I respect their opinions,’ Governor Edwards said.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I’m glad I don’t live in Louisiana!”

Biblical Response:  “Which, because you’re an American, is your right. If you don’t like something a state legislature does, you can always move. But Louisiana is the fifth state to pass a similar ‘heartbeat’ law…Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, and Georgia have recently passed similar legislation. And the mood in the country is such that the Supreme Court may eventually be called upon to look again at Roe v. Wade.

“Christians? Are all Christians Pro-Life? Hardly. Many are untaught. The real question is can a Christian be Pro-Choice? (notice how I framed the question – I could have called Pro-Choice the more inflammatory ‘Pro-Death’…the Pro-Choice crowd calls the Pro-Life group, Anti-Abortion or Anti-Choice) I will not judge any who claim to be Christian and are Pro-Choice. Only God knows the heart (1 Kings 8:39). God, of course, is all about life (there are over 60 scripture references in the the King James Version that establish this). He is all about getting us to choose life (Deut. 30:19). The unborn who get aborted never get that opportunity.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father,  help people to see that everyone deserves a choice; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 5-16-19 60,000,000 Muted Voices

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events -5-16-19

60,000,000 Muted Voices

What’s Happening: “Alabama Governor, Kay Ivey, signed into law yesterday a bill previously passed by the Republican-led legislature,  one of the strictest anti-abortion laws on record since Roe v. Wade in 1973 (which cited a privacy clause in the 14th Amendment). Although the Alabama law now makes it a felony for anyone to provide a woman with an abortion, even in the case of rape or incest, it does not charge the woman who receives such a procedure. It is surely to be tested in the courts. The ACLU and Planned Parenthood have filed in a similar Ohio issue (https://www.yahoo.com/news/alabama-senate-bans-nearly-abortions-including-rape-cases-022719213.html). In all, 16 states have taken up bills limiting abortion recently, with 4 of them beginning restrictions at the baby’s heartbeat.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “What’s a mother to do? What about a woman’s right to choose? Really, if you live in Alabama, and you want an abortion, where can you go? ”

Biblical Response:  “Setting aside the child’s choice for a moment (60 Million babies have involuntarily had their voices silenced since Roe v. Wade), it’s a cinch, not in Alabama! Or to any of the 16 states mentioned above! And, until the Supreme Court rules (which it’s not likely to do until Missouri’s law gets tested – but that’s another, more technical, legal issue), there’s liable not to be any clarity on the matter .Roe v. Wade was not good law when it was decided, and the country has gotten a whole lot more polarized since then. There’s sure to be a political fight.”

“Christians? Oh, we’re not one to shy from a fight, It’s hard to be a student of the Word and be pro-abortion. There are many passages pro-life people will cite (Job. 31:18; Ps. 139:13 Jer. 1:5…to name  few), but it goes against the very nature of God (Ex. 20:13).

Finally, let’s deal with the issue of choice. Sure, I understand the inconvenience of an unwanted child…and no one wants to be raped (or be reminded of it)…or be accosted by a relative…but what about the child’s choice?”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, we need wisdom in dealing with this sensitive topic, but help us to see with Your eyes…to listen with Your ears…to hear voices that would cry to us from the womb; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 6-16-18 Dubious Award

CLARITY

Dubious Award

What’s Happening:  “Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood of America, just received the Hubert H. Humphrey Civil and Human Rights Award.  During her tenure, over 3.5 million babies were killed through abortions, and Planned Parenthood profited from the selling of the many body parts harvested (https://aclj.org/pro-life/former-planned-parenthood-ceo-cecile-richards-received-a-human-rights-award-despite-being-responsible-for-over-35-million-innocent-deaths?utm_medium=Email&utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_campaign=d-06162018_top-O_seg-NLexNL20plFBR_typ-NL). A Family Research Council article reported, ‘Apparently the rights of those millions of lives she helped take away – some whose body parts Planned Parenthood then reportedly sold for profit under her leadership – didn’t count.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “A Human Rights Award?! Surely, you jest!”

Biblical Response:  “Who jests about such a horrific and heinous thing? Seriously, if this weren’t so true, it wouldn’t be believed! Nobody believed anyone could be capable of the holocaust…and that was over 6 million Jews…but we have a modern-day example of the same thing happening in our midst… FUNDED BY TAXPAYER DOLLARS!”

“Christians? Sadly, we are just as much a part of this murderous holocaust…by our inaction and the constant re-election of those with a ‘pro-choice’ voice (what about the voices of the unborn?). God forgive us. Thankfully, He has and does (1 John 1:8-9).”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give us the courage we need to overcome the abortion dynamic in the world today; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
