CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 8-30-18

Humble Yourself, or Be Humbled

What’s Happening:  “A letter from Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano was published on two conservative Catholic platforms and said Pope Francis knew about sexual abuse by former Cardinal McCarrick in 2013 and should resign. The Pope said, ‘I won’t say a word about it.’ (https://www.yahoo.com/news/catholic-cardinal-calls-pope-francis-123218998.html). Some defended Vigano, some attacked him. I guess partisanship is alive and well, even in the Catholic Church.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “From within or without, the Catholic Church is going down!”

Biblical Response:  “Probably not. The Catholic Church existed long before any of us came on the scene, and it’s likely they will exist long after we are gone. Still, it’s embarrassing to have the unrighteous world call you on the carpet. Perhaps you’ve heard the saying: ’Humble yourself…or be humbled.’ (Matt. 23;12)”

“Christians? It’s sad (and confusing) when we have a double standard (one we recommend…and another, more lenient one, we live by). When we refuse the private discipline of the Lord, He’ll put our business on the street. Change is what He’s after, We can take the easier route…or the harder one. (Heb. 12:6)”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to correct ourselves before we have to be corrected; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
