A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-4-19

The Hits Just Keep On Coming

What’s Happening: “The Democratic Gov. of Virginia  is under fire again…not for his passionless remarks supporting  a recent pro-abortion bill up for consideration in Virginia (it went on to defeat), OR his medical school yearbook photo which he admitted to over the weekend (saying he was in the photo of a person in blackface standing next to a person in a KKK costume…though he did not say which person he was), OR even for the the alleged photo of a Confederate-flag-toting pickup with his opponent-for-Gov.’s bumper sticker on it which he ran in a campaign ad (the truck was running over minority children)… RATHER, it was a his disdain for touching his black Republican running mate, revealed in a video uncovered by Mike Huckabee (https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/mike-huckabee-unearths-classless-va-governor-interview-hours-photos-surface/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=conservative-brief-CT&utm_campaign=dailyam&utm_content=conservative-tribune). The calls for his resignation are coming from his own party!”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I guess he could just deny those photos…”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah, but it’s a little late for that…I mean, what’s the credibility of denying something you’ve already admitted to? Maybe  it’s the things he’s done. Maybe it’s the things he’s said about the things he’s done. In any case, it appears he’s forgotten the first rule of self-destructive hole-digging: PUT DOWN THE SHOVEL!”

“Christians? Our actions should excuse us from any accusations of racism (Phil. 2:15). Or maybe our actions, though excused by a forgiving God (assuming you have repented), disqualify you from serving in certain capacities. God may have forgiven you, but why assume people will be as overlooking?”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, we should pray for Gov. Northam and his family…help him to see the way forward; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 8-30-18

Humble Yourself, or Be Humbled

What’s Happening:  “A letter from Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano was published on two conservative Catholic platforms and said Pope Francis knew about sexual abuse by former Cardinal McCarrick in 2013 and should resign. The Pope said, ‘I won’t say a word about it.’ (https://www.yahoo.com/news/catholic-cardinal-calls-pope-francis-123218998.html). Some defended Vigano, some attacked him. I guess partisanship is alive and well, even in the Catholic Church.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “From within or without, the Catholic Church is going down!”

Biblical Response:  “Probably not. The Catholic Church existed long before any of us came on the scene, and it’s likely they will exist long after we are gone. Still, it’s embarrassing to have the unrighteous world call you on the carpet. Perhaps you’ve heard the saying: ’Humble yourself…or be humbled.’ (Matt. 23;12)”

“Christians? It’s sad (and confusing) when we have a double standard (one we recommend…and another, more lenient one, we live by). When we refuse the private discipline of the Lord, He’ll put our business on the street. Change is what He’s after, We can take the easier route…or the harder one. (Heb. 12:6)”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to correct ourselves before we have to be corrected; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
