Don’t Mistake Forbearance For Fear

What’s Happening: “Iran launched a Katyusha rocket that landed dangerously close to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq late last night, escalating rhetoric via Twitter. Both governments warned the other not to threaten. Is it more mere saber-rattling or genuine? (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-warns-iran-not-threaten-us-face-end-065953536.html).  Jeremy Hunt, British Foreign Secretary said: ‘…if American interests are attacked, they will retaliate. We want the situation to de-escalate because this is a part of the world where things can get triggered accidentally,’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Nothing’s going to happen. They’re (the leaders of both nations) just building their Twitter audiences.”

Biblical Response:  “I hope you’re right, but never let the Iranians mistake forbearance for fear, reticence for lack of resolve. That’s what happened by the Japanese in WWII at Pearl Harbor…and by Osama Bin Laden at 9/11. It took ten years, but justice always has a way of arriving. Remember, Jesus is coming back…and it won’t be a pretty sight for some (as a matter of fact, the Bible depicts Him coming with a sword protruding from His mouth – Rev. 1:16, 2:16).”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in a patient God. But not in One where patience is mistaken for license. Read what the scripture has to say about it:

‘The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.’(2 Pet 3:9-10 NASU)

We should pray that our leaders have the wisdom know when to pull the trigger  and when to just speak louder.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, let not our enemies think we are kidding…You’re not; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 2-7-18 Almost Perfect

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-7-18

Almost Perfect

What’s Happening:  “SpaceX’s launch of its Falcon Heavy rocket was almost perfect…it was the largest rocket in recent memory, it was done by a private company (Elon Musk’s), and two of the three rocket engines, designed to be re-usable, returned to their designated landing zones (I said it was ALMOST perfect – the middle section failed to land on its drone ship). As a bonus (and a great advertisement) it orbited Musk’s Tesla Roadster, now the fastest hybrid in the galaxy  (https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/6/16980954/spacex-falcon-heavy-rocket-middle-core-failed-landing). If all goes as planned, the upper stage carrying the roadster will reignite for a mission to Mars orbit.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “It’s just another publicity stunt!”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…but how creative..and savvy. An instant YouTube sensation, the video will no-doubt go viral…I mean, who doesn’t want to see an astronaut orbiting in a car, his arm nonchalantly draped over the side and David Bowie blaring on the radio?! Not only did billionaire Elon Musk (CEO of SpaceX) advertise his ability to safely launch a payload into orbit and reuse most of its rockets, but he did wonders (I’m sure) for Tesla Roadster sales.”

“Christians? We should rejoice when a private company succeeds (Rom. 12:15), but perfection is elusive…and it should be. It is reserved for God …and those who apply His principles (which I hope Mr. Musk is). Otherwise, the lessons of a man’s pride are often learned by those who suffer the collateral damage they sometimes inflict.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, guide our cautious optimism; while we rejoice in technological achievement, let us not trust in anything but You; in  Jesus’ Name, amen.”   © Alan E.Sargent
