There’s Justice, and There’s JUSTICE

What’s Happening: “Love may have been in the air yesterday (Valentine’s Day), but it was not being expressed in the tweets President Trump tweeted about A.G. Barr. Barr had already recommended leniency in Roger Stone’s sentencing, but Trump tweeted about his ‘legal right’ to continue or discontinue his official relationship with Barr. To which Barr, in an interview with ABC Thursday Barr complained that the President’s tweets were making it ‘impossible to do my job.’ and recommended the President stop the tweets. Like that’s going to happen! (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-keeps-tweeting-justice-department-160845366.html) Barr said: ‘I’m not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody. And I said, whether it’s Congress, a newspaper editorial board, or the President. I’m going to do what I think is right. And you know … I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me. I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases.””

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Maybe the President should be more Presidential and keep his big mouth shut!”

Biblical Response:  “Maybe…but then maybe not. Much of the time he’s only tweeting what much of America is thinking…and he is trying to be a ‘man of the people.’ Besides, there’s justice (the kind Bill Barr dispenses) and JUSTICE (the kind that God dispenses):

“‘Then you will see the difference between God’s treatment of good men and bad, between those who serve Him and those who don’t.’(Mal. 3:18 LB)”

“Christians? We believe in ultimate justice. Roger Stone may be adequately, excessively, or insufficiently punished for his crimes, but God will see to it things end up fair. Few of us, however, have enough patience to let go and let God.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to have the kind of patience and trust it takes to let You be God; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 8-4-18 Freedom of Opinion

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 8-4-18

Freedom of Opinion

What’s Happening:  “Is a Tweet an order?…Or just an opinion? That seems to be the question in the brouhaha caused by the left’s reaction to a recent Tweet by the President. In it the President said the AG ‘should’ end the Mueller probe, which the President repeatedly Tweets is a ‘witch hunt.’ Are his Tweets protected by the First Amendment or do they represent obstruction? (https://www.yahoo.com/katiecouric/yahoo-news-explains-obstruction-tweet-152033182.html). Adam Schiff Tweets:’The President of the United States just called on his Attorney General to put an end to an investigation in which the President, his family and campaign may be implicated. This is an attempt to obstruct justice hiding in plain sight. America must never accept it.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “So the President has chosen social media to express his angst…don’t we have freedom of opinion in this country?”

Biblical Response:  “I’m with you…though technically we have ‘freedom of speech’…what’s speech is for the courts to interpret…though I think Tweets are to be included if burning the American flag is. Like the old saying goes, ‘Opinions are like noses…everybody’s got one.’”

“Christians? That’s different for us…Americans may have freedom of speech, but we don’t (Eph. 4:22-32; 5:4). We are to exhibit a little more self control than what we might like to.Things might be lawful for us, but not all things are expedient (1 Cor. 6:12). License to express comes with some responsibility, too…at least for us.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us not to judge too quickly in those areas where we find ourselves often guilty; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
