CLARITY – 2-22-18 Victory

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-22-18

What’s Happening:  “In a 3-2 shootout, America reclaimed the Gold in the finals of Women’s Hockey over Canada, who won in the last four Olympics, two of them by the same score, also in shootouts. To say this was payback would certainly be an understatement…at least to the U.S. Women’s Team. The heroes? Jocelyn Lamoureaux-Davidson, shooting, and U.S. goaltender Maddie Rooney (  ‘What this group has been able to accomplish is way bigger than sports,’ said forward Gigi Marvin. ‘That’s something that’s never going to fade.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Big deal…”

Biblical Response:  “And it was…maybe not in the scheme of things, but in the world of hockey (at least a distraction from all the threats of nuclear annihilation, terrorism or public school shootings) it IS a big deal. Forget all the training (read: hard work and sweat) travel, and support, this was the first time in two decades the U.S. girls have brought home the title.”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in hard work and sweat, not to mention distraction. We have a tendency, with all the  hardship, poverty, and tragedy in this world, to take things too seriously. A little ‘CHILL’ would do us good. Besides, how can we struggle to keep the main thing the main thing without competition? It’s this struggle that makes maturity possible.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, teach us to enjoy more and fret less; in  Jesus’ Name, amen.”   © Alan E.Sargent
