CLARITY – 2-23-19 The Power Behind the Power

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 2-23-19

The Power Behind the Power

What’s Happening: “Bernie Sanders joined a crowded field this week of Democrat leaders all vying for the Democrat Presidential Nomination; to be the one opposing Trump (who, although he’s the RNC’s choice today, may face a primary challenge), raising 6 million dollars in just his first 24 hours, four times that raised by Sen. Kamala Harris (https://news.yahoo.com/2020-vision-bernie-sanders-launches-like-rocket-192320064.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=1_03). ‘To win this election and build a movement to defeat Donald Trump, we must bring together a team prepared to fight for economic, social, racial, and environmental justice,’ Sanders said.’”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Sounds like he’s positioning himself to win.”

Biblical Response:  “It does…of course, Hillary thought the same thing. And it’s not money alone that determines the victor. It’s ideas and policy…and more than that, it’s God (‘Man proposes, but God disposes.’ Prov 19:21 LB). Which is not to say that we shouldn’t vote as the outcome is already determined. God gave the people what they wanted in Saul (read the account in 1 Sam. 12:10-25). The only thing worse than opposing God and failing is opposing God and succeeding. Sometimes God will give you your way just to show it wasn’t His preferred way of doing things.”

“Christians? Oh, we believe in this cooperative venture with God… but the wise always defaults to Him. Let me share a scripture with you:

‘This plan of Mine is not what you would work out, neither are My thoughts the same as yours!’ (Isaiah 55:8 LB)”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give us the courage of our conviction help us only back Your play; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 1-23-19 Most Quoted

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 1-23-19

Most Quoted

What’s Happening: “Judge Paul Ridgeway refused to certify that the North Carolinian Republican Representative was elected in the last contested race of 2018. Mark Harris was supposedly elected by a close 905-vote margin (though there is some dispute that third parties may have collected and submitted some Absentee Ballots – there is an investigation into this and the result is what the judge awaits). The opposition contests the results of the election (https://www.yahoo.com/news/judge-rejects-republicans-bid-certified-winner-north-carolina-181426188.html).’”Certification is not appropriate until the investigation into the protest is concluded by final decision,” Judge Ridgeway said.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “Are we still quibbling over 2018?!”

Biblical Response:  “Yes, and the North Carolina constituency deserves the person they truly selected…so getting it right IS important. Judging whether Mark Harris (or his competitor) was elected is what Judge Ridgeway has been charged to certify, though there are many who would shrink back from that task. In fact, the most quoted verse in the Bible is: “Judge not…” (from Matt. 7:1). Few people quote the rest of the verse, and the first parts’ context: “…that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. (Matt. 7:1-2 KJV). The verse is not saying we are not to judge, but to not judge HYPOCRITICALLY, In fact, we are called to judge (1 Cor. 6:3).”

“Christians? We make judgments everyday (should we buy this product or that… Let’s compare prices and ingredients… we contemplate). Justice may be blind, but every jury is asked to weigh the evidence and make a JUDGEMENT…with their eyes and ears open. Knowing this, should make us pray for our judges.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us not to judge too hastily or hypocritically…and to pray for those who judge…and not to shrink back from that job, if selected; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 1-4-19 Not Universal

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 1-4-19

Not Universal

What’s Happening: “Although (and not unexpectedly) Nancy Pelosi won the election of Speaker of the House, it was not unanimous (actually 12 Democrats did not vote for her). In fact, the only thing unanimous about the vote was the unanimous opposition of House Republicans (https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrats-didnt-vote-nancy-pelosi-house-speaker-202202741.html). She did not take impeachment of the President off the table after her election (https://dcalert.com/2019/01/03/pelosi-vague-about-impeaching-indicting-trump/), but left other lieutenants to introduce bills to do just that (https://www.dailywire.com/news/39931/breaking-democrats-introduce-bill-eliminate-ryan-saavedra?utm_source=cnemail&utm_medium=email&utm_content=010419-news&utm_campaign=position1). What will come of it all? Will the Democrats legislate or investigate? It remains to be seen.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “I thought the government was ‘shut down’…how can anybody do anything?”

Biblical Response:  “‘…mostly dead is still slightly alive’…as was remarked by Miracle Max (played by Billy Christol) in the Princess Bride. Or, you might say: ‘Shutdown, but not as you think of SHUT DOWN.’ Or as some would say, ‘The show must go on.’ In any case, the above articles (links) paint an ongoing, but not universal picture. It might do well to have a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude.”

“Christians? Although unanimity is seldom reached, unity should be sought (Heb. 12:14). Sometimes it is not possible (Rom. 12:18), but still it should be sought.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, give our elected leaders the civility that elevates us all, not the incivility that only underscores barbarism; in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 11-29-18 The Cure

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 11-29-18

The Cure

What’s Happening: “You could probably have titled today’s blog: “You’re Fired,” but President Trump had little to do with the impeachment Wednesday of three (of the five) West Virginia Supreme Court Justices (actually, additionally Justice Menis Ketchum retired and agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud and the remaining Justice will probably be impeached, too). This is the cure West Virginia’s Founders (and America’s too) created for “lifetime” appointments (https://leadpatriot.com/three-members-of-wv-supreme-court-impeached-in-one-day-then-comes-number-four/347/). Allow me to highly recommend a book: Impeachment: Restraining an Overactive Judiciary, by historian and political activist/Christian, and my friend, David Barton (https://wallbuilders.com/summer-1997/).”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “They’re all Democrats and the legislature is predominantly Republican…isn’t that fishy?”

Biblical Response:  “Yeah, but those same legislators were elected by a majority, too. That’s the way our system works. Winston Churchill may have been quoting Richard M. Langworth when he famously quipped: “Democracy is the worst form of government…except for all the others.” There might be a higher standard for our judges, but there should be. When you appoint (some states vote) a judge, you are setting up a man or woman to decide the fates of those that come before them. That’s an awesome power and responsibility that shouldn’t be taken lightly.”

“Christians? Probably the most quoted verse comes from Matthew 7:1: “Judge not…” The problem is that almost nobody quotes that verse in context. The rest of the verse is: “…that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” (Matt. 7:1-2 KJV) We are called to judge angels (1 Cor. 6:3)…of course nobody wants to live the kind of life that qualifies them to be anybody’s judge.” Of course, what qualifies anyone is Christ’s sacrifice.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, help us to live a life above reproach, not to just settle for the world’s standards;  in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

CLARITY – 10-8-18 It Should End

CLARITY

A Biblical Response to Current Events – 10-8-18

It Should End

What’s Happening: “After then Judge Kavanaugh officially became Associate Justice Kavanagh (the Senate, charged with advise and consent, voted 50 to 48), Christine Blasey Ford has asked that Kavanaugh not be further investigated or impeachment proceedings not be pursued (https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/blasey-ford-caves-legal-team-shuts-investigation-kavanaugh/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=CTBreaking&utm_campaign=breaking&utm_content=conservative-tribune). ‘What I can speak to is that when victims of sexual assault and violence go to their Congress people — when they go to their Senators and ask for their information to be confidential, I think that’s a request that needs to be respected,’ Katz, one of Ford’s attorneys, said.”

Knee-Jerk Response:  “So her letter was shared…so what?”

Biblical Response:  “Truly, it’s no big deal… I mean, she did send the letter…however, she did ask for it to be CONFIDENTIAL. Will the Dems, who ultimately did not get their delay, let the issue lay? Probably not…in fact, I think they will add Kavanaugh’s impeachment to their desire to impeach the President…should they win in the midterms…especially if they win the House.”

“Christians? What do you do when the truth is uncertain…and you don’t have the evidence or the discernment to determine it? You wait for ultimate justice (Matt. 25:31-33). There may be collateral damage lack of justice on earth may wreak…whatever the truth may be…but there will be no such ambiguity in heaven.”

Here’s a Prayer You Can Pray:  “Heavenly Father, if we can’t sort it out on earth, help us to be patient while we await Your judgment;  in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
